Alienware M17x R4 Dedicated GPU problem
Hello,
I've never really ran into too much problems in the past 2,5 years I had this laptop.
Sadly around 1 to 1,5 months ago I ran into problems. I suddenly started to get the x116 blue screens which indicated something was wrong with my GPU or its driver. Since I initially thought some random update of World of Warships had made it corrupt I tried to uninstall this. But it didn't change anything. My GPU wasn't getting any hotter than it did before as well.
In the end the only solution being over was uninstalling the Nvidia driver. I used one of these drivesweeper programs to clean every single bit of Nvidia of my laptop, but now I ended up with a problem. Device manager doesn't want to show any Nvidia card anymore and the driver updates (the initial one from Dell or the Nvidia website ones) won't work because it can't detect.
The thing is, the Nvidia card shows up under dedicated card in BIOS and I can just switch to my dedicated card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M (or MX)) with the FN+F7 combination. Although I still can't download any driver and it still won't show up in device manager when I do that.
I uninstalled AlienRespawn (since someone mentioned that) but that didn't change anything at all. I was not able to find something like this specific case. The card still works, the problem is that I need windows to detect it.
The last option would be reinstalling the Intel HD4000 driver first (windows 7 64bit one that is). But would that really work? I'm not too eager on doing this. Or is there any other problem?

Hello,
Yes, it would be a good idea to reinstall the Intel HD graphics driver in case there is a driver conflict issue. Try uninstalling it from device manager first and check the little box that says "Delete driver software". Click here to view the driver download link for the Intel HD graphics driver. If the Nvidia card is still not showing up after you installed the Intel driver, reinstall the "On Screen Display" software and try the FN F7 command again.
This software enables the functions keys to work properly. For example, the FN F7 command. Click here to view the download link for the OSD software. I'm not sure why you were advised to uninstall the Alien Respawn program. This program can be used to do a system recovery or to back up your system data. Perhaps, they meant you can try an Alien Respawn system recovery which would restore your system to factory settings. Please let us know how it goes.

re-install the BIOS from DELL to see your gpu in device manager again and install the proper driver. And do a re-paste with IC diamond and change your thermal pads ... you are having a heat issue

Just to make sure I do it correctly. How do I safely re-install the bios? Forgot to note that I have windows 7. That download is for windows 8.1. Currently I have BIOS A12 on my computer.
I'll try to re-paste as soon as possible.

is the only BIOS available ... i think it will work for everything ... the safe mode consist in close all applications and execute the BIOS .exe from the download ... make sure you close everything and plug your pc to the charger.
let me know everything ... have a nice day :)
