Alienware m14x R2 touchpad/keyboard issues

Hello,

I have an alienware m14x R2, currently running windows 8.1 with updated drivers. 

My current problem is that the touchpad works, but if I start to use the keyboard the touchpad stops working for about a second, then it works fine.  I've dug around with the settings of the drivers, but I couldn't find anything.  Now, I had recently just changed something in the bios settings that allows me to use the function keys without pressing the fn button, could this have something to do with it?  I've changed it back, but it didn't seem to have any effect.  This doesn't occur with regular mice, just with the touchpad.  Essentially i could be using the touchpad and as soon as a key is pressed, it just stops for a second and starts to work again.  It happens for any lettered key, and tab.  For someone who works with spreadsheets, this is really annoying.
