its PCI E but if you don't have one in there as of know then you will need to buy the riser card for it would need to call dell and get one though or order of ebay or something like that. and you will need the 330 watt PSU, but, if you ask me i would just buy another machine i had the x51 R1 for a while and eventually i stressed the components so much that my power board and light board died and i wound up just gutting my machine. So if i was you i would build a good gaming rig and use the x51 for something else just my opinion.

Hi, i would like to purchase a GTX 970 for my Alienware X51 R2, but i'm not sure which version of it is compatible, PCI or PCI-E? Anyone?

 

It's PCI-e, but for you to test that card you need to make sure that the GTX 970 requires the same amount of power as your current card and that it´s size is the same or smaller so that it fits in the machine.
