What about buying an home HVAC air-flter and cutting out the custom shapes you need? We use TrueBlue (Merv 7). It's a white pleated cloth-like material (not fiberglass). It can be pressed down flat if needed. You can also double it.
You can also buy the sponge-like filters (again, not fiberglass) really cheap, but I don't think that material catches the small stuff.
If you start using filters, you have to change them often as to not restrict air-flow as they catch stuff (do their job).
Never thought of the AC filters, gonna go to hardware store. I'd rather replace small pieces of filter than 2 $300 + GPUs , worried about the fan inside once dust sticks.
I have had issues with dust in computers before - can get worse with in the summer.
The way I get arpund it is to use a Hepa Air Purifier that i bought from Argos a while back - i replace the filter every 3 months (15 pounds). This setup removes 90% (i'd say) of the dust in the room, i now dust the room once every month (and even then its not that dusty) instead of once a week (where it would be quite dusty) and the air 'feels' better.
They cost around 50 pounds for a decent one that'l do the job and 10 - 15 pounds per replacement filter.
Trust me though, this, if you position it correctly and buy the right purifier, is THE BEST METHOD TO STOPPING DUST BUILD UP!
Yeah I'm gonna look @ hepa filters. I used to sell the washable electrostatic filters for air conditioners years ago. Might get one for the house air conditioner/ furnace, they work pretty good and are reusable but pricey. I'm gonna look for the portable one. Thanks for the tip on ARGOS.
which one r u using , Honeywell or Vick's ? I'll try and find one in the US. I noticed "trolley " is used over there instead of cart- that's cool, I'm gonna ask the guy @a walmart where the trolley's are just to mess w him.
yeah its a trolley over here - i personaly use the 3M Filtrete. It can get loud if you put it on high though but it does the job for a relitively cheap purifier. All I do is put it next to my computer and stick it on a timer set to come on high for 2 hours in the morning when im out and another 2 hours in the early evening just before i get back in.
It does the job for how cheap it is but this deosnt mean the problem is avoided completely - just helped. I still clean the computer every 6 months but trust me, its far less dusty when i clean it after 6 months of using it than after 6 months of not.
Seems to me that desktop computers are similar in design to the standalone air purifiers ... both are electro-magnetic and are continuously circulating air.
