Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (IXTU) thoughts?

All,

I need both positive and negative comments about your experiences with IXTU on Alienware PCs. I will forward this to engineering.

MI_CT,

Nope. We pulled it awhile back. Just wanted thoughts about it from users that still had it loaded.

My Alienware Aurora had Intel XTU version 1.3 already installed on it. I couldn't find a way to update it within the program, so I had to go looking for it on Intels website.

Before I updated it though, I did try to use 1.3 and it stinked. I tried to Autotune it to Slightly Over Specifications and 1.3 wouldn't do it. I left it on for 16 hours while it was supposedly autotuning, but it never did anything. Then it wouldn't stop trying to autotune it, I would hit the stop button and it would say "stopping...." but would never stop. I ended up having to uninstall the program completely to get it to at least stop running. Then I reinstalled it with the resource CD and when I opened it it acted like it was still doing the exact same autotuning that it was doing before I uninstalled it. I uninstalled it again and went to Intel's website to download the newest version.

XTU 2.1 has a MUCH nicer interface, and can also be used to monitor activity. My first attempt at autotuning with 2.1 was a success and it didn't take very long for it to finish, maybe an hour and a half.

imo, put the 2.1 version back up on the site. 1.3 was no good, but 2.1 worked perfectly for me.

I've done a completely fresh install of Windows 7 x64. My Aurora ALX is based on x58 chipset with an intel i7 920.

I've installed xtu 2.1 but there's no autotune option - why?

hey chris. xtu is a good program if it fully worked on the mobile platform. but it does work for over clocking  multipliers. does not work for memory settings or and of the gpu or cpu core voltage(amps) but does also work for bclk and turbo voltage. (m18xr1)
