The highest processor compatible with Alienware M18x R2 is Intel® Core™ i7 3920QM - 2.9 GHz.

ok. so if I were to consider an extreme core i7, what is the fastest one I could use? thanks.

the 3920 is a extreme mobile cpu but on ebay still sells for around the 1k mark.. not really worth the upgrade..
i swapped out for ssd's and other and more then happy with the outcome..
there is also a 3940xm thats been verified everywere online (google is your friend)
i just ordered a 3840QM for my M18X R2 like 30 minutes ago.... reason its 2.8ghz .. its not and extreme cpu but meh ... to gain extra 100mhz.. not worth it, also got this cpu for 220cnd shipped/customs ect.. out the door
were as the xtreme 100mhz faster is like 800 bucks more (but give overclockign ability) that will be limited by heat/power
but apparently the 3840 give an overclocking option available in bios.... if not.. moded bios it is ...
