Upgrading my Alienware Aurora R2 Desktop
Hi all,
So I'm looking to upgrade my desktop, as it's struggling to run the game I play (World of Warcraft).
The specs are as follows:
System Information:
Aurora R2
Default System BIOS
Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07 GHz (4 CPUs)
3GB of RAM
Direct X11
64-Bit
Device Information:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Graphics Card
1773 MB Total Memory
1920x1080 Resolution
750W Power Supply
Ideally, I want to bump up my RAM to 8GB and to upgrade my Graphics Card greatly. However, I have no idea what's compatible and what's not as information on this machine seems to be scarce and differs from website to website.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

honest opinion.. sell it as a piece of history and get a new one... that's a first gen i3 which is basically a dual core with 4 threads...
ram... 8 gig would do but again cpu is in much need of help..
and video is *** haven't seen an 8800 in a long time lol
this system is 6 years old roughly give or take a year.... its time to upgrade to a newer generation...
but assuming board supports it.. atleast 8 gig DDR3 1333MHZ
video... gtx1060/ 960 or such .. should work more then adequate .
solid state drive would help greatly..
and cpu I'm not to familiar with what was supported on this board..
but cost of parts if can find might be more then just replacing with a better system.. sometimes you take the loss .. I had to before... and that was few months ago :(

@89fordprobee
Thank you for the brutal honesty. I was hoping this wouldn't be the case, but I'm inclined to agree.
Do you think it'd be advisable to just buy the newest Aurora R4 (since I liked my previous one so much), or would a custom build be more bang for my buck?

if you have the ability and knowledge to build... yes build one.. but if your wanted to keep the style you can always see about building newer in your case..
there is many write ups on maing I/O controller work with aftermarket boards etc..
as for keeping the Aurora you can find em pretty cheap for an R4 I'm looking at one for 600 CND lol
