15 R2, freezing, fans go full speed
hi guys i have the above alienware laptop.
ive noticed its freezing occasionally after booting up windows.
when this happens the left fan goes on full speed and stops then the right fan does the same and stops.
then all is normal again?
has anyone else experienced this or have an idea of how to fix it?
thanks

You are a life saver. Just uninstalled Dell Support Assist. Bye bye Dell Data Vault Collector and Dell Data Vault Processor. Bye random full fan speed!
Thank you!

Hi @jasongoldworthy welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Seemingly the Windows operating system has been corrupted and it has instigated temporary repair of its files. Please run windows Check Disk to find and automatically fix operating system files. Using the Chkdsk Utility | Dell US

thanks guys for the reply.
but this hasn't helped in anyway.
and from what ive read online this is quite normal.
@Doris014 the 2nd link in that search shows its part of the bios and is meant to do it with others having similar issues.
so im none of the wise for it.

Hi @jasongoldworthy thank you for sharing update.
Lets see if windows Reliability Monitor is revealing root cause of this issue. How to use Windows Reliability Monitor to identify software issues | Dell US

hi @crimsom thanks for the reply and the idea to use the reliability monitor.
all I can see in there are windows updates configured and so forth.
there are no errors or anything reported.

Hi @jasongoldworthy thank you for sharing update.
Has the BIOS been updated? Could be bad install, always download BIOS update file and then install. You can install same BIOS version again, to ensure that this is not the problem. Remember to verify the checksum value of your download file before install. Alienware 15 R2 and 17 R3 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US

I recommend you install all the drivers for your model of laptop and download every single driver for it and place them on a USB. Then run all those drivers in safe mode in Windows 10 and run these commands before in CMD as an Admin.
sfc /scannow
chkdsk /f
chkdsk /r

@Alienware Area-51 ALX 2006 I have installed all the drivers for my model from dell
ive also reinstalled windows several times but the issue remains.
it only happens once after boot.
when I boot the laptop and say its been on 5 mins then this occurs everything freezes left fan goes full speed then stops right fan goes full speed then stops and the machine becomes responsive again.
so im really puzzled by its behaviour as ive no other issues with it.

Hi @jasongoldworthy thank you for sharing update.
Agree that this is strange 15 R2 behaviour. Seemingly a delayed POST activity.
@Alienware Area-51 ALX 2006 recommendation to use safe mode and run commands as an Admin, is a good catch-all problem solving option without knowing the root cause of this strange Issue.
If that does not work, then there is a hardware problem that POST and ePSA diagnostic did not find (they do not check everything). If this issue is only at start-up, its not worth your time trying to fix it. You could start by intuitively replacing 'troublesome' fan, only to find that this issue is not fixed.

hi @crimsom
yeah this is an odd one I have done all the commands in safe mode with no issues noted.
but even in safe mode the problem happens after a few mins of being booted. but after it does the fans it goes away.
the diagnostics test the fans and find no issues I have 2 spare new fans here but I doubt its a fan issue making the system freeze for a few seconds and then go back to normal.
I can live with the fact that it does it but its just annoying to say the least.

Hi @jasongoldworthy thank you for sharing update.
Delayed POST activity in Windows safe mode is a unique hardware Issue.
