First things first:  if the battery is swollen, it needs to be removed immediately.  If you leave it in the system it is both a safety hazard AND will destroy the system.

The system will run fine on AC power (and if your intent is to ask whether the absence of a battery will slow the external GPU performance, as long as your monitor is connected directly to the AGA, it won't).  That said, many recent systems require both the battery and AC adapter for maximum CPU performance - since it's likely this is one of those, you may not see full CPU performance on AC only.
