I have the same issue. External monitor works fine. I have submitted service/support requests with video and they have been marked closed. I don't know if by phone is their means of communication. But this bug renders a laptop unusable.
No one replied to me from a post just like this that was about the backlight and screen flicker.
It has been weeks with no reply.
I got online and on the phone with service techs on this issue and Dell has deleted my service tag from their support site, he said he would call me back about it (a week ago).
I complained on the BBB site because I think dell is trying to pull a warranty scam.

This problem stopped for me after a few windows updates.
Also to stop the heating issues, i suggest you undervolt the cpu. Doesnt affect performance by alot.
