I started also having this issue today. After removing the power from the wall and plugging it back in, the flashing went away, but the laptop completely shut down when I did this, implying that the battery, which read 40%, was not working... should I be concerned?
The ac adapter's flashing diagnostic light is saying create Battery Report to confirm that battery is at End of Life and should be replaced or removed. Lithium-ion polymer battery has swelling safety hazard. Laptops without battery are designed to function as Desktop on ac adapter power.
New replacement OEM Alienware 17 R2 / R3 Original 8-cell Laptop Battery 92Wh is Dell P/N 6JHDV. On arrival check that label says DP/N 6JHDV and that beneath the square matrix, year/date is less that 6 months old. When installed, create Battery Report, check that report is for the replacement battery and is a new battery, with actual full charge capacity very close to design full charge capacity.
