17 R4, HDMI audio does not work in discrete mode

So I've got an alienware r4 17 from 2016 and when I'm in discrete mode with the gpu it won't permit me to use hdmi audio- that's a pretty debilitating issue for a gaming laptop.  I can't imagine why this would be the case; I nvidia GPU's have long had great sound in my experience and I have no idea why a laptop would be designed this way; is it a design flaw or is there some means of fixing this I haven't discovered?

The reason why is because the intel HD controls the HDMI and Thunderbolt outputs while the nividia controls the DisplayPort and maybe the display.

I've tried this with both the hdmi and displayport- I can't get displayport or hdmi audio out of the discrete GPU at all.  If this is a normal function of this integrated/discrete setup it's really something they should advertise- it's very debilitating.

Can you get it to work with integrated graphics?

the integrated GPU will still be used even if you set it to integrated instead of Discrete because the cpu controls the display while the GPU processes everything and sends it to the cpu.
