17 R4, SupportAssist not showing BIOS update
Okay so I don't know what to do here. I ran SupportAssist, scanned for drivers and updates and it says that my system is up to date. Then I went to Dell's website, checked devices and drivers and it says I have a BIOS update available for Alienware 17 R4. Do I update it or not? It even says it's urgent but I don't want to brick my laptop. I've seen people say that SupportAssist is basically useless in some cases.
I am currently running the 1.10.0 BIOS version (23.7.2020.) and the new BIOS update says it's the 1.11.1 version. Have I missed any important updates, is it safe to install, etc?

If your machine isn't experiencing any issues then just forget about it. BIOS updates are not something that you HAVE to do. If you are not experiencing any problems then feel free to ignore it. Some of the later updates for that generation laptop have actually caused more issues then they solved.

It is best to run BIOS updates through the Dell Support page and not Support Assist. 1.11.1 is the version directly after your current version so you haven't missed any previous ones.
You shouldn't have any issues when upgrading a BIOS through the Dell Support page but problems do happen sometimes. I usually say not to flash a BIOS unless you're system is having specific issues which will be fixed by the new BIOS but it's completely up to you.

Thank you both, hilarious how I just got your replies after I'd updated the BIOS. So far, it looks like everything's fine and I hope it stays that way. The only problem I've been experiencing since 2020 is the "amount of memory has changed" message popping up but Dell is aware of it and it's a SupportAssist issue.
