17 R4, double click issues

I have an Alienware 17R4, and it's complete garbage. I've turned the double click sensitivity all the way down, it should never double click at all, but every time I click on anything with one click it randomly decides that I must've meant I want endless clicks in rapid succession without any warning or preamble. I'll try to highlight one single word and it magically highlights the entire page and everything that page has ever done or said or thought and the thoughts of every person who ever looked at the page, and on and on, but Jesus forbid it highlights one single word. Just one. I can't play games on my gaming laptop because when I click once it clicks so many times so rapidly that nothing is accomplished, I have no menu options, nothing can be opened, I can't use any in game controls or prompts, and I don't feel like using a separate mouse because that's not what a laptop is meant to accomplish. If I wanted outside peripherals I would've bought a desktop. I can't change font, the menu just opens and closes and opens and closes and opens and closes in a split second, and then I click it one more time because changing a font isn't a crazy desire that's beyond the scope of technical possibility in 2019, and it opens and closes and opens and closes and opens and closes in a split second. Again. Endlessly. Nothing can ever be accomplished on this worthless laptop-shaped paperweight. According to the internet this is a known issue and it's never been solved and no one cares and there's no solution. So is that a thing, we're all just fine with this? There's no solution and no one is working on a solution and no one could possibly find a way to solve this? I hope that's not the case... please solve the issue.

Hi @AshleighS,

We need you to try a mouse just to rule out any software problems. If the mouse works fine, then it means that this is probably a problem with the touchpad.

Please let me know if you can try a mouse.

Excellent question. I have used a wired mouse, and a wireless mouse, and both have appropriate click speeds. They're lovely, in fact. But they're completely inconvenient.
