17 R4, why is display so poorly made?
Hello,
In March 2017 I bought the Dell Alienware 17 R4 with the UHD 3840x2160 LCD panel. I used it very, very rarely. Let's say 1 hour per week on average. Only if I need a powerful machine. I need а laptop, not desktop, because sometimes I have to bring it with myself. So, I've invested in this expensive top product of Dell company and after 4 years the LCD is gone. The purchased 3 year warranty expired March 2020.
First I had this

And now it's totally black. I can't imagine how expensive the repair will be. But this is not my biggest concern. I'm sure that after few years it will be gone again. And then? Is this from the LCD panel or just connections?
Kind Regards,
Mitko

Hi again,
It was the matrix. From the service told that the original 4K matrix is disaster. Every original or non original 4k matrix is gone within few months. So I replaced it with this:
B173HAN03.0 17.3 LED Full HD IPS 144Hz 40-pin eDP
VERY DISAPPOINTED FROM DELL!
Never buy laptops with 4K display!

Welcome to the Dell Community @apendix
I see you are performing what I call a "Flex Test"
While the laptop is booted and the screen is on:
Grab the display at the upper left and right corners.
Then pull one side forward and push the other side backwards about 1/2" to 1"
Repeat back and forth. "Flex Test"
Most non-technicians would frown on this type of test.
But it is something real technicians use to determine a cold solder joint on an LCD display.
It can also indicate a loose cable but it looks like you have found the exact spot of the cold solder joint.
You could try to too find the exact solder joint and attempt a repair.
If not the display will need to be replaced.
Best regards,

Thanks for the reply, @U2CAMEB4ME !
I'm not a technician and I'm not aware of cold solder joint on a LCD display. As I saw on the internet, mostly Indian technicians do this kind of repairs. But I'll try to find such technician also in Bulgaria
And what causes such issues? I have been very careful how I use this laptop. There are no incidents.

@apendix
There are many contact points on any display.
If one of those contacts becomes "Cold" it will display different results depending on that contacts function.
Something that will facilatate the cold contact is opining and closing of the lid.
It can also be contribitutied to a bad "Hinge"
