Hello @Konadreamer very pleased for your post. There are updates for AWCC and OC Controls that Alienware Update does not detect (again).
Have now used the hidden Administrator Account in Windows 10. Revo Uninstall was used to completely remove the old AWCC and OC Controls followed by restart. A clean install of the updated AWCC and OC Controls was undertaken followed by restart. Clicked on AWCC in the start menu and it went through installation as if this was the first install. But AlienFX devices not detected (again). Had a look at programs - Alienware folder and the AlienFX Tester is missing (again). Alienware Update and SupportAssist both say there are no problems (again), but the 17 R5 continues to be dark.
Return to the normal admin account and the AWCC is not listed in start menu, even after shutdown and then log back in. However, Revo Uninstaller says AWCC and OC Controls are installed. Very odd.
Thanks to Konadreamer, but still looking for the solution that works on my 17 R5.
To anyone that wakes up to the same problem of Device not detected (17 R5) I found a easy solution that worked for me. I had not changed anything nor had I loaded any software. Yet I woke to non working keyboard light. I found on Reddit.com https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/628ui5/alien_fx_stopped_working This very simple fix. It was a USB Port Miss informing a Failure. Go into Device Manager, find the USB Port Failure, UnInstall it, Do a hard Shut Down, Restart Laptop.
That's all it took. Lights are back on and AlienFX is working fine. Hope this helps someone else.
So if you use the advanced scan option for Revo Uninstaller when doing the removal, it will allow you to select all registry entries and delete them. When you re-install AWCC Suite and OC Controls with the administrator account using the "Run as Administrator" option , It should work and try running it in the Administrator account before trying to install it into your regular user account. Here's a link to the files from Dell Support. I would not trust the ones from Microsoft.
Hello @Konadreamer thank you for your message. The Reddit community is very proactive and I have a watching brief just in case they find a fix for my 17 R5.
My 17 R5 went dark after install of an AWCC update. Visited Device Manager and there are no faults on anything. The AlienFX applications were removed by the AWCC update, so Device Manager does not have any of these drivers.
The AWCC update is now 621MB and a suite (of applications). Although the AWCC suite is supposed to do many things, it fails to fully load all of the applications when installation says warning: AlienFX devices not detected. Whoever put this "single update does everything" together did not complete the fault analysis. In computer science, garbage in, garbage out (GIGO) is the concept that flawed, or nonsense input data produces nonsense output or "garbage".
Hi, I have the same problem from July 2019 on my 17R5 UHD 1070, after awcc update my laptop became completely dark, also power button. Still I have no solution, support at last messages says:
Given that case, we have to refer this over to our Tech Engineers. As it stands right now, the AlienFX is not working to it's 100%. We'll go ahead and take note of your service tag. However, we cannot confirm or promise a short-term solution for the lights.
But nothing, I'm waiting every update of awcc maybe now it will work ((
Right now I made again clean windows 10 install and last awcc WIN_5.2.81.0_A00 and again No AlienFX (((
Win10 Professional's Feature update version 2004 and .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.8 update version 2004 for x64 have been installed. The AWCC suite was removed and then reinstalled after another restart. Our laptop continues to be dark because the preinstalled AlienFX devices were detected (again).
sorry, apparently this is not the problem, since I do not have USB devices with an exclamation mark! And DELl support today did not come up with anything good, how to advise me to tear down windows .....
Happened to me to on an m15 R4 after installing the more recent OC controller update and no fixes suggested anywhere fox it. The control suite is straight up trash
They’ve gotta go back to the OG Command center which actually was pretty good considering it had the good ol Alienware Adrenaline, AlienFX,AlienTactX,AlienFusion?
I got the same problem. I just got solved by installing the last chipset drivers. try to find if your latest chipset driver installs them and reinstall the Alienware Command Center 4.5 for Notebooks. and that works for me.
Hi @Gerardo13x thank you for the suggestion. The Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver was installed and we reinstalled the Alienware Command Center and OC Controls, but this process did not install any of the AlienFX v2.0 applications or enable the AWCC FX tab. Our Alienware 17 R5 laptop continues to be dark.
There is no fix for the AlienFX 2.0 application, despite many requests for Dell to provide a customised AWCC version that fully installs, by not checking for Alienware FX devices. There is still no troubleshoot for LED lights. Why is Dell Alienware unwilling to provide a solution, its their fault/problem?

I do not quite understand what kind of USB you need to remove, can you describe in more detail with a picture?
