17 R5, AlienFX not working
So, I was having a problem where, after updating everything to the latest versions on Dec 15th, the AlienFX lights would revert to blue and start blinking whenever I launched Civilization VI (Steam). Nothing would fix the blinking except quitting the game, or sometimes even rebooting the computer.
I chatted with someone from Alienware support who told me to reinstall Alien Command Center. I was skeptical about that since I had already updated it via the installer from the dell website, but I deleted ACC and reinstalled it. And the problem with Civ VI persisted. Everything reverted to blue and started blinking, which was so annoying I couldn't play the game.
Then, while the game was running, I tried going into ACC and changing all the colors to Rainbow Wave, and that stopped the blinking, but everything remained blue, and the blue lights would not turn off even when I closed the lid. But I thought that a reboot would fix that.
I rebooted. Now I am stuck on the "Spectrum" thing that happens when you reboot, except it's not going away. Changing themes or colors in ACC has no effect whatsoever. The FN + F12 shortcut does nothing either.
Earlier, I had tried to revert to an earlier restore point, and that did not work. It just got stuck at 0%. I tried resetting the computer to factory settings and that did not work either. So a solution I read on here about restoring or resetting doesn't work for me, and the Alienware guy who did that text chat with me was obviously wrong.
So... yeah...

I am having the exact same issue with the same game. Yesterday support updated my bios and we confirmed all lighting was working again. I ran Civ VI and had all types of flashing light issues and now I cannot get the lights to change. I’ve tried rebooting but stopped short of reinstalling once again.
About to call support again

I was able to get mine fixed by having support install an older version of Command Center. Once this was done everything worked and we tested with multiple games and everything worked. It has updated and the update has worked as well, so I think my issues are solved.....I hope.

I've got an M15 and have a similar issue with Civ 6, so there's definitely something not right between that game and AlienFX.
Civ 6 is meant to work with AlienFX in that it will change the colour of the keyboard to one based on the civilisation you pick.
It changes the colour on mine as it should, but it also makes the lights blink, which it shouldn't do. Mine does however revert back to my correct scheme when I exit the game.
Apparently in earlier versions of AWCC, you were able to disable 3rd party apps from being able to control the lighting, but this has been removed in the current version of AWCC, and setting a certain profile for the game to use doesn't work either as Civ will still override the lighting.
Easiest thing here would be for Dell to update AWCC to let us disable 3rd party control of the lights.

Same exact issue. No solution offered by tech support other than stop playing Civ 6 for a while to verify it is the source of the problem. Tech support appears to be aware of the issue as they stated CIv 6 "has known issues" with AW Command Center. They also speculated that Civ 6 "corrupts the registry". From what I read, it looks to me like the problem might be with the latest version of Command Center. Whichever it is, I hope they stop pointing fingers and fix it before the Civ 6 expansion release on Feb 14th. I want to start playing again on that date.

I just want to jump on this thread as I'm experiencing the same issue. I end up having to click the little alien head to turn off the keyboard lights while I play civ6.
Hopefully someone at Firaxis or Dell figure it out before Feb 14th.

A new version of Command center has been released today. It fixed my audio problems, maybe it will fix your lighting problems.

I've just updated to the new AWCC and it's actually made Civ6 work worse for me.
Previously, Civ6 would change to the default blue for the menus, then in game, it would switch to a colour matching the civilisation picked. In the menu, the colour would remain solid, but in game the keyboard would flicker. When I exited the game, the keyboard colour returned to the scheme I had set it to.
Now, the keyboard behaves exactly the same in Civ6 with the colour changing to civ and flickering, but when I exit the game, it leaves my lighting on the default blue colour. I then have to go back into AWCC and set my profile back to active.
@Alienware-Eimy
Is there any way this can be raised with the developers of AWCC/FXLighting to bring back the option to disable 3rd party apps taking control of the lighting, or figuring out a fix for this?

@DougalAW,
Send me a private message with the Service Tag so we can escalate this with engineering.

@James0791 I haven't heard anything back yet.
I've also raised this with 2KGames who have said the information has been passed onto the devs (I asked if we could have a simple option to disable integration with keyboard lighting, just like you can toggle numerous other things on and off).
Not really holding out much hope of either side doing anything about it.

Curious if it's only one game causing this could it be the game trying to deliberately change the colors or something? Maybe they're trying to make the colors match the game? That's a pretty cool idea.

@MarcFromTheDark Yeah Civ 6 and a few other games have integration with AlienFX.
In Civ 6's case, it changes the keyboard colour to match the civilisation that you choose to use in game. I think it might also go red when you are at war. Just funky effects like that.
Current problem is, Dell have removed the option from within AWCC to stop 3rd party applications taking control of the lights, and Civ 6 doesn't seem to work properly with the current version of AWCC/AlienFX and causes the keyboard to flicker when in game.
We're then stuck in the middle of this with the only option to be to turn keyboard lighting off while in game, as the flickering is really annoying.
I'd personally just like my keyboard to remain with the lighting scheme I've chosen and disable 3rd party app integration, but whether Dell will listen or not, I don't know.

Same issue.
But mine didn't recover after I quit CIV 6. Now all the lights' aren't working, including the logo, power button, and lid light.
I've tried every way I found on this forum. Simply couldn't turn them on.

Received Area 51M today. Made sure everything was updated. Installed Steam and ran Civ VI. Keyboard started blinking and only stopped when I exited the game. I have been playing it on my old M18 and the AWCC works fine on it.
