17 R5, Incompatible Product prevents Dell update

Dell Support's Find a driver for your Alienware 17 R5 says install Dell Update Application for Windows 10 v3.1.3. Although the v3.1.2 installed sucessfully, the v3.1.3 update fails with message to remove Incompatible Product. But how to find which Product is incompatible?

Hi

I had a similar problem.
Installed the Dell-Update-Application_FNG6M_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE first, then got the same error when I installed
Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_TVGXV_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE.
Uninstalled the Dell-Update-Application_FNG6M_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE, then the installation of
Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_TVGXV_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE went through with no problem but had once again the same problem trying to install the uninstalled
Dell-Update-Application_FNG6M_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE.
No idea to which one takes preference above the other. Not sure which one does more than the other.
Looking at file sizes does Dell-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_TVGXV_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE only has 26,154KB and Dell-Update-Application_FNG6M_WIN_3.1.3_A00.EXE comprises of 87,121KB
It seems like the last one might have a bit more flesh, so I am going to uninstall the Win 10 Update and only have the Dell-Update-Application be installed.

Did you download the realtek audio driver while it was installing?

Hi @Stefan.Verwey agree, they seem to be mutually exclusive, but the driver details do not  provide this clarification. Have installed the Dell-Update-Application.

But does your touchpad work?

Hi
I prefer to download all my drivers and sort them in their individual folders, before I start to install them.
I prefer to keep things very organised.
So now, I don't do the install while in the download mode.

Have you sorted out all your drivers and got all your parts working?

Regards
Stefan

Great stuff

I am a bit confused to why there is a Win 10 Update driver, although I do get new notifications about them while in the Win 10 settings & update mode.

You should update them in case of a new fix for your laptop.
