17 R5, left USB port connection is bad

It has been about a month since I purchased my Alienware 17 R5 laptop and the left USB port has been having issues, which have gotten worse the past week.  Even slight movement will disconnect a USB drive or gamepad, which makes long file transfers a real pain since if it gets interrupted I have to restart all over again.  Any clues as to what might be causing this?

I've also been having issues with my left and right side USB ports. It was working fine, I don't really touch the USB cables. I wonder if it has to do with any windows update that was released?

This thing has a mind of it's own! I don't have that problem anymore, or at least, i don't notice it much.

All I did was connecting a mouse to the right side port, and a keyboard to the left side, and a USB hub to the USB-C which I use to connect external harddrives and flash drivers.

Right now I got nothing to complain about, I'm not sure if the problem is resovled, it's been a while since I got the laptop, and many windows updates were installed! So I'm not sure that any of them is responsible of fixing the issue 'assuming it was fixed', because this setup worked for me from the beginning even when the problem was still bothering me.

I have horrid input lag sporadically on my 17R5 when it comes to USB keyboards and mice on the left side USB port. I have to continuously disconnect and reconnect the devices until they get a stable connection for a few minutes then the problem starts again. This was never an issue when the device first came out of the box, but now every device plugged in shows the same issue, multiple different keyboards, and mice. It is as if the USB controller is unable to process the inputs correctly at all. honestly, a miserable experience as this mail itself has taken 15minutes to type. The laptop by itself, if you do not use a single USB device works flawlessly, but how practical is that really!

There’s actually a second board that connects the left side usb to the motherboard and it’s only accessible from the top of the laptop in the palm rest area.

try disconnecting and reconnecting it.

Has this been resolved yet? It's been years since the original message!

I have the same issues and have had them for a while, likely since I bought the laptop.

I thought I was buying for a premium product. If I knew I would have never purchased. It's a shame!

Have all of you reflashed the BIOS?

I mean I have my 17 R5 and it has almost no input lag whatsoever and I measured it using my PS4 controller and at maximum it would be 9ms and the lowest is 4ms.

2 Years later and still no response. I have a 17 R5 too. The customers that paid 3k+ on a laptop just to be left in the dark about the problem. Besides the fact that my laptop started to have hard drive recognition problems. I have to boot the PC twice so i can get to the desktop, first time it crashes. "Thank you Alienware" and of course outside of warranty they don't do anything to help you. Laptop costs more than 3k euros.

I also have a problem with my USB. The USB Type-C in the back doesn't work at all. The one on the left is stopping constantly. The USB 2.0 or 3.0 whatever it is, same issue. The only one that works is the right USB 2/3.0. 3.5k on a laptop that has 1 working USB. Is this Alienware or Apple? At least by Apple you can connect a hub, by Alienware not.

Dude, I stayed off the 17 r5 after hearing what everyone said, but I took the risk anyways. The lights still work but I haven't updated the AWCC after hearing that it might soft brick the EEPROM so it can't even be reflashed anymore causing it to just turn black.

I did some research into this issue. For in warranty 17 R5, we can see that some motherboard exchanges were done for this issue. But we never heard back from those users. In the captures that we received, we connected the rear power adapter, updated to the latest BIOS and Chipset drivers, rebooted. Then while still connected to the rear power adapter, tested several USB drives, mouse, and keyboard on both the left and right USB 3.1 port. The USB devices never failed. There was never any data to support that the USB 3.1 ports on the 17 R5 was a "systemic" fault component.

Same problem here. Left 3.1 usb does not recognize 2.0 devices but it recognizes my 3.0 my external hard drive.  Brought it to best buy last 2019 when it was still in warranty, they "serviced" it  and said its the way it is and there is nothing wrong with it. Tried all the solution i can find in the internet but still does not work. Any update on this?
