17 R5, screen issues

Good afternoon, I'm had this issue in the past at the very first time when I purchased the alienware r5 17 120hz display gtx 1070, after a week it just turned on, now I'm experiencing the same issue after about an year, I will post the video please note sometimes it's just going black and if I'm moving the screen seems to be OK for few seconds, display issues, ram issues? GPU temperatures are OK not even reaching 85 under heavy load

Thanks

Try lowering the refresh rate to 60hz and see if the issue fixes itself.

SupportAssist troubleshoot common issues will hardware test video devices and video card devices. Or troubleshoot everything on your 17 R5.

Give troubleshooting a try and see if anything gets flagged as an issue.

If SupportAssist is not installed, go to Dell Support Drivers & Downloads Here and enter your Service Tag.

To run a ePSA on the 17 R5.
when restarting the computer when you see the logo keep pressing F12 until you get a blue screen that gives you various options, click ePSA Diagnostics.

Tell us your results by video or photo.

The issue is the display panel itself, I tried to put on 60hz still the same, when I'm leaning the lid back and forward few times everything it's ok, strange is that after lid moving is not doing anymore like that

Hello @Ionu thank you for the additional information that when moving the lid back and forth the problem goes away. Moving the lid will also move the connecting cable and its connection.  When the screen goes black (no picture), the cable connection must have relaxed sufficiently to not power the screen's backlight and you cannot see the picture on the screen. If moving the lid fixes this problem, you may decide to put up with it. If you have a persistent no picture, you may wish to replace the backlight or at the very least check the connection integrity. Have a look Here at How to fix LED LCD TV black screen no backlight, TV disassemble, testing LEDs, ordering part, repair

My HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment PC had a similar problem and the internet provided its Maintenance and Service Guide. LCD screens with the CCFL backlight are prone to failures and you are often in doubt if it is an inverter or CCFL lamp failure. The Display assembly components included item (3) Display inverter.

We purchased the inverter (with lamp) from China and putting it in the lid was not difficult.

Thank you for replay, today it just went black so had to open it up, looks like the back cover from vent it's putting a bit of pressure on the electric ribbon, tried to push it inside a bit but didn't went also I noticed the right side hinge wires are a bit tensioned looks like a bit short, but yeah I manged to turn it back on again, for now everything works good. I took a screenshot of the ribbon I think it might be the issue. Thanks again

It has to be pressure based then right? If the connection is being relaxed to the point where flickering occurs it has to be re-adjusting the connection.

Hello @Ionu thank you for the photograph, although not sure which cable is giving you display problems from your description, as it is more likely to be [23] display cable.

The connectors are [20] logo-board cable, [21] power-button board cable, [22] tobii eye-tracker board cable, [23] display cable ([24] tape secures the display cable).

Why not design a cable that does all in one? I mean crimsom, why design 4 or 5 cables that do specific things when you can make 1 single cable that controls it all making it easier to service.
