Hi @AlienCAM

This is an OS limitation and has been like this since Windows 8. Thus, it will require you to continue using the slider as the workaround since this is the step MS specialists have recommended until reaching a resolution.

Just in case anyone else has this issue, I used the macro keys on the Alien to work around this issue. I used the Alien macros

6, 7, 8, and 9

6 = the "windows" key

7 = the word "keyboard"

8 = the "enter" key

9 = left arrow, right arrow, & "enter" (using a recorded macro)

Now after coming out of sleep mode I just hit 6, 7, 8, 9

Same issue...thanks for the fix!

I also sometimes experience this with the scroll speed of the touchpad slowing down. Similar fix: I pull up the Alienware touchpad menu, do a left-right with the scroll speed, hit "save" and all is well...!

You can also use one macro key if you record the process front to back. I submitted a ticket back in February and had been waiting for a fix. The slow key rate has been escalated to the engineering staff. I was told they encountered that on another Alien computer. They came to the conclusion it was a bios issue. They are trying to replicate this issue and provide a fix. It is not related to Windows. I had reinstalled Windows to try and fix this issue. There were several other attempts and steps to fix the issue. So, if you ever contact support, just write me in this forum and I will tell you if I tried their suggestions.

Hello Everyone,

The problem lies in the registry. Backup your registry before applying any changes. After any changes, be sure to restart your computer. Go to the following directory in the registry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response]

My Settings that worked:

"AutoRepeatDelay"="300"
"AutoRepeatRate"="20"
"DelayBeforeAcceptance"="0"
"Flags"="59"
"BounceTime"="0"

Dells Recommended Settings (I haven't tried yet)

"AutoRepeatRate"="500"
"DelayBeforeAcceptance"="1000"
"Flags"="126"

Good Luck,

Chris

Thanks for the info and all your work on this...! I only have the problem on occasion and use the "slider fix,"  but if the issue gets too persistent I will consider editing the registry.

I too found that this problem is intermittent. But, it was still a pain when it catches you off guard. I am not usually one to trust any forum that recommends changing the registry, but the values are really harmless. Just record your original settings.

Omg thank you, I've been in contact with support and we tried all sorts of things, including changing in the registry. This one worked though. Thank you.

I thought this solved the issue, but when I move the arrow keys it is still present. Really odd and sometimes it doesn't work at all. It is a bit random. I have the 13 inch version so  I don't have macro keys.

I discovered a new way to recreate a slow key rate, even though the keyboard Repeat Rate is set to fast. If I power off (Shut Down) the computer, and force applications to close, the key rate is slow again after the computer reboots. The Repeat Delay is Short.

I think altering the registry is what caused the issue to occur for you. Because you manually set something that the os automatically sets or what dell sets.

I had to format my computer and start fresh. When doing so I left the registry alone. I optimized my macro, so it is a one button fix. I seem to have trouble with sleep mode. After closing the lid most of my active programs get closed out, I see this when I look at the tray and Show Hidden Icons.

I can’t see the image but it’s great you never altered the registry and just used the macro keys.

I am not entirely sure if I fixed the problem but the keyboard doesn't seem to type slow after sleep mode, and here's why:

I turned off hibernate using this command: powercfg -h off and rebooted

I turned hibernate back on using this command: powercfg -h on and rebooted

After turning powercfg -h on my keyboard immediately slowed down after sleep mode. I turned hibernate off again and now my keyboard seems to type fast in and out of sleep mode.

I may need time to be certain the problem is fixed, but so far so good. However, my computer is unable to hibernate. Dell, what do you think is the cause of this?

Because you disabled Hibernate Via the Command Prompt?

Sorry its just that I personally think Sleep mode is better than Hibernate because lets say you turn the PC back on, and it has to load the OS back from the HDD? isn't that much slower than RAM? But I agree that consuming less power and not losing your data due to a power outage is better on the Hibernating end.
