I have the same issue. An external mouse seems to work, but its like the touchpad pointer buttons get confused. It will work for a while and then it just goes buggy. When it is going buggy, left mouse click performs right mouse click operations and you have to either toggle between the two buttons or just wait for it to resolve itself. This issue does not seem to be present with a restore to the original build. After restore, the system and thermals in Alienware command center see to work properly. After windows and command center updates thermal feedback and touchpad buttons just go to heck in a handbasket. I have half the notion to update firewall rules to block windows and dell updates and just ride on the edge with the original system configuration where things just worked better.
go back to the original version of command center and leave it like that. The new windows update has the option to postpone the updates to a specific time like that. You can also change the firewall settings in case it still tries to update.

This could be window 10 corrupted system files or third-party services. Have a look Here to see if any of these solutions work for you.
Your solution could be to get a different mouse and software that are specifically recommended for 17 R5 laptops.

It’s a hardware issue as the other guy stated in his post about the 17 r5.
