15 R4, random shutdown on battery power

Alienware 15 R4

Alienware 15 R4

I have this Alienware 15 R4 laptop, which is great except that it experiencing serious problems when in battery power, it shuts off randomly, and I'll explain the cases below:
1.Laptop works great when plugged in AC power.
2.When power cord is removed, laptop continues to run in battery power, and then randomly shuts off, could be after 5-     10-30 minutes , but it's random, I could not figure out a pattern what could be causing the laptop to shut down.
3.When the laptop shuts down randomly, it wont turn on again, unless you plug the power cord into the laptop because       it needs some power input. I've tried to just plug in and out again, and it will work.. It just needs a little power input.
4.When laptop is turned on while on battery power it will shut down randomly.. most probably immediately after login or     after launching an application.
5.Laptop is running latest BIOS version
6.Diagnostics always returns battery health ok.
7.When doing diagnostics on battery power, it will shut down about 30 seconds into the process.

Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your Alienware 15 R4 laptop is experiencing a problem with its battery. The fact that the laptop works fine when plugged in and only shuts down when running on battery power suggests that the battery is not providing enough power to the laptop. This could be due to a number of factors, such as a faulty battery, a problem with the battery connector, or a software issue.

Here are some things you can try to fix the problem:

  • Check the battery health using the Alienware Command Center app. If the battery health is low, you may need to replace the battery.
  • Update the BIOS to the latest version. This may fix any software issues that are causing the problem.
  • Run a diagnostic test on the battery. This will help to determine if the battery is faulty.
  • Reset the BIOS to the default settings. This may help to clear any corrupted settings that are causing the problem.

If you have tried all of these steps and the problem is still occurring, you may need to contact Alienware support for further assistance.

Here are some additional troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure that the battery is properly connected to the laptop.
  • Try using a different power outlet to see if that makes a difference.
  • Avoid using the laptop in high-temperature environments.
  • Close any unnecessary applications before running the diagnostics test.

hey anyabaker

  • thank you for the suggestion.i have tired all the above mentioned fixes but none of them works. Moreover. All the mentioned battery diagnostic does not return any faults in the battery. So i am confused where it is a battery issue of problem in mother board. the battery health is still 79%

Run a battery report:

Under Windows 10 or 11, open a command prompt with admin privilege and type

powercfg /batteryreport

What values do you see for the current and design capacity (NOT the charge state!) of the battery?

hey ejn63

the design capacity is 67,990 mWh and the Full charge capacity is 58,049mWh. the only way to drain the drain  the battery is to use powershare usb port to charge other accessories. where it works fine.
