Thank you so much!!! i just did it on my 15r3, revert from 1.2.3 to 1.2.0 and it worked the first time! Now my computer is back to normal.

I have spent 2 hours on the phone with alienware tech (bad) support who told me it was impossible to revert it. My temps were reaching 100celcius with this 1..2.3 and are now back to normal max 84celcius (while playing BF1) thanks to you.

For people interested in rolling back follow to the letter the instruction and on reboot choose the first option in the bios not the second one. I think it is called recovery.

Thanks again!

@Gerry M if your system is not loading try to reset the CMOS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_WskE6Jx5U

Same problem here on Alienware 15 R2.

Somewhat resolved the problem by putting the BIOS onto a bootable USB key and reflashing it using the boot options.

The only problem that exists now is that on shutdown, the computer will not power off. The OS will do its shutdown cycle and turn off the screen once it's completed but the lights and fan of the computer are still on. The only way to truly shutdown the computer is to hold down the power button once it reaches that stage.

Hoping for a fixed BIOS soon that resolves all these issues.

JUst been confirmed by a dell representative that the driver of dells 1.4.4 was a mistake and was reverted on that same day. the driver was intended for a dell powershell server for the year of 2012 for a 1955 system

Dell Server BIOS, 1.4.4

PowerEdge 1955, BIOS, 1.4.4

they have informed me that the motherboard is corrupted and has to be changed as the architecture of the chipset is different so it has no idea what it is looking for thus showing the issues for the 3-5 min startup and the inability to sleep or shut down.
So you are going to have to pay out money for a mistake on dells side.
Welcome to dell everyone

@Alienware-Eimy is that true?

Installing previous bios does not solve the issue?

Also @Greensnake Do you have any proof to back up what you mentioned? got a copy of your conversation with the dell representative?

This is what I got

"Good day to you.

As per discussing with my team regarding your issue, we suspect that the motherboard might be corrupted due to the Bios update. So, what I can suggest is we can provide you the quotation for the motherboard and see if it resolve the issue. In case by replacing the motherboard won't resolve the issue, we can proceed with the refund process.

If you would like to proceed, kindly provide me your address during business hour so that I can fill in the quotation. And, may I know if the quotation will be bill to personal or company? If by company, kindly provide me your company's name."

Goodness sake.. but but it doesn't state anything about the bios 1.4.4 causing the problem..

Dear team, please solve this issue ASAP. Pls release a new bios update soon. We can't replace any motherboards, its your bios update which made our laptop motherboards unusable.

@Alienware-Eimy I too have a 17 R3 that I think went through a update but I can't tell due to mine won't even turn on.  T/S the power brick and purchased a new brick, both do the same thing, green LED illuminated when not plugged into the laptop and out when plugged into the laptop.

Laptop purchased on March 7, 2016...

Service tag:  BGJKJ72

Out of warranty as usual when this decided to happen, pretty sad for a high end laptop.

Looking for what options I have...Jerry

Can you explain the process of making a bootable USB stick and updating the BIOS from that? I've never made a bootable USB stick before. My machine (Alienware 15 R3) crashes hard a few moments after any 3D graphics activity with one of a rotating cast of Windows 10 errors - DPC Watchdog, a crash in the Nvidia driver, a Windows memory management error ... My problems all started with the January BIOS update to 1.2.3 (I think that's the version). That update has been pulled and replaced with an earlier version (1.2.1). Unfortunately, downloading and running the usual installer from the Dell Support site gives me an error that my current BIOS is "protected." Bah, what a PITA. If Dell plans to release a truly fixed BIOS in the near-term, fine. If not, I'd like to be able to roll back to an earlier version to see if my problems are resolved or at least improved.

Thanks>

You can find the instructions to making a bootable USB here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-alienware-13-r3-owners-lounge.797884/page-674#post-10665979

I followed this manual to install previous bios version.

At the end I have installed previous bios version (1.3.12) and now the only remaining issue is the shutdown (lights stay on after shutdown). Not sure how to solve this.

@Alienware-Eimy When will DELL release the new BIOS version, Still no update from DELL. Many people are suffering from this faulty BIOS update & we cant use our laptops for more than 2 weeks.
