17 R5, Graphics AMP driver

Where can i find a driver for Alienware 17 R5 Graphics AMP? I have downloaded a number of drivers from the Dell website, but they only seem to support up to R4. I tried running them and got "system not supported error" during installation script. I have just spent £1000+ on the AMP and a card and another £800 on a high refresh monitor. Help!

You don’t need to install the graphics amp software which is why in newer systems, the driver is gone.

After swapping the new display-port cable for another new display-port cable the display output now works direct from the RTX2080 to the monitor. The blue light on front of the extender does not come on (as it does when I plug in the R4 laptop) but it would seem that the card is functioning. I have no idea about benchmarks and performance but it seems good enough. Many thanks for sharing tips and advice for getting it working.

I never needed a separate download for the driver for my amp. I also have the 17 R5. I have always just downloaded the latest nvidia driver from geforce experience. I also disabled the built in 1070 via device manager cause it was causing fps stutters.

Okay, so no need for an AMP driver install. I shall try it with graphics card driver.

Hi @Derrick21 the Intel Driver Support Assistant Here will identify your products and get driver and software updates for most of your Intel hardware. Hope this helps. Kind regards.

I've not tried it yet.  It is for my son and I will not see him for another two weeks.

Thank you for confirming. I had spent hours (probably 5) searching. I found R5 blog threads that alluded to AMP driver installation which convinced me I needed to to find an AMP driver before loading the RTX driver.

okay... I tried again. Checked all drivers . Dell, Intel, NVIDIA, Windows Updates etc. All is up to date. The system boots but does not disable the internal GTX1070. Instead it boots with all cards enabled and seems to be using the RTX2080 and the GTX1070 in SLI. The blue light on the graphics AMP does not come on. If I put a display port monitor cable in the RTX, there is no output. Only a cable plugged into the laptop is sending signal to the monitor. The monitor flickers slightly, not sure if this is why. If I disable the GTX1070 in devices, the NVIDIA control panel no longer recognises that there is an RTX attached. This is on my son's R5. I have tested the AMP on my R4 and it works fine. The system disables the internal GTX, the blue light comes on the AMP. It outputs signal to the monitor via the RTX in the AMP. Seems odd that it works okay with an older model laptop.

Are you closing your laptop lid after disabling the 1070 in device manager?
