Hi @XxValiantxX  did you follow the Dell download process?

(1) Uninstall AWCC & OC Control applications. Then Restart Area-51m R1 notebook.

(2) Open Local admin account, download AWCC & OC Control updates, verily file integrity (using check code on update webpage), Run as administrator, wait for install windows to say installation successful. Then Restart Area-51m R1 notebook.

Hi @TAINGO  our 17 R5 is included in this group of Compatible Systems, for these AWCC and OC Controls updates. We also have problems with these Dell updates. This problem has been reported with zero Dell Technical Support response. The new Dell systems are also included in this group of Compatible Systems.

We note that there is considerable room for improvement for whoever is compiling the code for these Dell updates. As the deployment of these updates does not ask a) install only for this user or b) install for everyone, AWCC should default to “install for everyone”. We have the most recent Windows 10 Pro x64 Operating System and Windows Security does not like these Dell updates, and we have to click on install anyway.

The usual fix, is to put the AWCC update application into a public folder. Open user account, open public folder, Run as administrator, then select Repair, wait for window to say repair was successful. Then Restart to save these changes into the operating system. When user account is re-opened, click on the start menu's AWCC and during loading, it should automatically find and start the OC Controls application.

Hope this fix works for you.

@crimsom

Thanks so much for that! it worked for me on my M17 R3!

You're right, they need to sort out their issues with this program. It's caused me so much time trying to fix it after this upgrade and the last one.

Hi @TAINGO  thank you for sharing an update.

Agree, Dell should fix their AWCC problems.

We have been trying for 9 months to get a full install of AWCC on our new 17 R5, still under first year RTB warranty. There are no AWCC Home and FX tabs and FUSION does not fully install. Our 17 R5 also has the MLK refresh that includes keyboard per-key lighting upgrade. But our 17 R5 is completely dark, none of the lights work. As a gaming 17 R5 it is disappointing and when sent for warranty repair, the warranty technician refused to fix any of these faults, or fix any other faults when asked to fully check this laptop. So we have paid a lot of money for just a common laptop.

I've now (after a long time and help from others on the forum), have seen some of the following issues cause this:

1) AWCC / OC controls not installed correctly (remove and re-install may resolve).

2) The "AWCCService" service is not started up (or is on a delayed start)

3) Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtime needs repair (version 2012 or 2013)

3) Kaspersky Total Security interferes with the running of AWCC. This was my issue. Stopping Kaspersky immediately allowed AWCC to load properly. I've tried an alternate provider for antivirus and my problem has gone away completely. Hi @Juntauk thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, these fixes are not a solution for our 17 R5. Its still stuck in dark mode, no LED lights. We now have been updated to Windows 10 Pro x64 version 20H2, and the AWCC will not load, it just shows a rotating circle saying its going to load, but never does. Our Dell Warranty expires 08 NOV 2026, but this 17 R5 problem is not being fixed.

Sorry that my suggestions were not helpful in this instance. I did wonder if something like the AV issue might have helped but looks like a more fundamental problem. I feel your pain, having spent 2020 looking at my own issues with AWCC not working as it should.

I have often complained and fed back to Dell that their platforms should not need such specialist / proprietary software just to run fans or change lights. Disappointing really, and a reason (along with poor support experiences) that I won't be buying Alienware again myself.

I'll keep checking in and if I see anyone with a more realistic answer I will report back here.

Good luck and best wishes.

Hi @Juntauk thanks for keeping in touch. Agree that this fault is odd.

The Dell AWCC AlienFX 2.0 version does not have a troubleshoot application. When system was sent to warranty technician, their assessment was that they are clueless how to fix this fault. Dell Product Support are also clueless.

Despite having a warranty, we are unable to get Dell Product Support interested in fixing this fault.
