Area-51m R1, Thermal, fan controls mission

Hi, Please help ... and thanks in advance.

I have an Area-51m laptop and I used to be able to use the Command Center to view and set thermal controls, fans speeds, Over Clocking Controls. All of that is now missing. This is critical because the fan speed is not going to maximum and my system is overheating.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, run analysis and they are still not available. I have uninstalled and installed Command Center and OC controls many times.

(when I open the newly installed command center it appears to ignore the updates I have applied and tries to go on line to install Alienware Sound Center, AlienWare OC Controls and Alienware FX Systems - and then it hangs on each one with the error "You'll Need the Internet for This", while I definitely AM ON THE INTERNET).

What to do?

[ps - i was planning to buy an additional Alienware system for my family this weekend, but I have spent 2 days troubleshooting this and, of course, am having doubts. This should be much much easier.]

A further comment: As I said above when I open the command center it tries to open Alienware Sound Center (from the windows/MS store) and this does not even exist there. Nor can I find it in drivers/updates/downloads of the Dell Support site.

Is this some kind of legacy list item that it is supposed to check for, but no longer exists?

Hi @DellGumby  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

To install the Alienware Command Center Application and its Alienware OC Controls Application, the original AWCC and OC Controls must have been completely removed using Revo Uninstaller Free, with its Advanced Scan to delete all the left behind Files, Folders, and Registry entries. AWCC has two delete windows, so just click on Select all, then Delete everything.

This ensures that any AWCC update is installed as if for the first time, then wait for AWCC to add the OC Controls and other resources for you.

If you continue to have AWCC installation problems, install the old AWCC version that was installed at the factory, and resist the temptation to install any AWCC update.

Hi, Please help.

I am trying to install Alienware Control Center (AWCC) and it's components. AWCC installs just fine, but then wants to download components (including FX etc). Then it launches Windows Store to download the components. Then the process fails because Windows Store generates the error ("You'll Need The Internet For This") - when I definitely am accessing the internet). I can not fix the Windows Store error. Because of this I can not run critical Alienware components like Fusion and FX.

Is there a way that I can do all of this as direct downloads from Dell site. (I have already tried to use the Downloads and Drivers site - but when I launch AWCC is still invokes the use of Windows Store and the problem repeats).

How can I get around using Windows Store!

Thanks in advance!

Tim

Hi @DellGumby  thank you for sharing update.

The AWCC application will automatically download and integrate the resources it requires. There is no requirement for you to visit Windows Store or Dell Support's Drivers & Downloads to manually get additional resources. The AWCC resources will download in the background when you are online and running AWCC.

Please type troubleshoot into Search (on LH of taskbar). Open Troubleshoot, Additional Troubleshooters, and click on Internet Connections, to find and fix problems with connecting to the internet or to websites.

Hi @DellGumby  thank you for sharing update.

My Alienware Laptop gets the AWCC additional resource updates automatically online, in the background. Why should your Area-51m R1 be different? Your windows settings must be incorrect.

This is not correct. The process tries to open Windows Store on it's own. It automatically tries to make a connect to Windows Store - this is the way that Dell now maintains its updates.

I need to make the updates AWCC trying to make a connection to Windows Store.

[The troubleshooter does not find any network problems.]

If you have the Area-51M R1 like Crimson suggested then try installing this version of Command Center

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

If you have a different machine then enter your service tag in the support section of this website and open the Drivers and Downloads. Find the correct Command Center Application and install.

I know it should be automatic. For some reason with mine, when it goes to get the updates it hits the store and when it hits the store it generates the error of not being on line (when i am).

Dell uses the store automatically and seamlessly behind the scenes to update now. There should be no manual step. But, your are right, mine is behaving differently, Windows Store is prompting a sign in sequence. It loads AWCC then it goes to update itself with the other modules - then I get the error and I am left with no components.

When you say "Your windows settings must be incorrect" - what settings would cause this?

[PS - thanks for staying engaged Crimsom - I have spent 2 complete days on this and I am probably wearing you out too]

Hi, I have Alienware Area-51m. I am not sure if it is R1. I previously used the drivers suggested by the updates/drivers product support page after it scanned my computer.

But the one you linked to was different in that it had more of the modules included. So I tried it.

I uninstalled everything using Revo, then I used the version you suggested. Rebooted. Things are now a little different. I get no error message regarding Windows Store and some of FX seems to be installed (the lighting).

However :(, as you can see in the images the other components (thermal and overclock) fail to load. They just spin.

So.... I guess this means that the new install package included more, but it is still hanging - failing to access what it needs for the remaining components. I have let it spin for 30 mins now. So... I believe I need an installation package that includes ALL of the components.

Whaahhhhh the new install - still hanging on componentsthe new install - still hanging on components

It looks like many people have had similar issues with the Microsoft Store in the past. Have you had a read through this thread below?

Hi @DellGumby  thank you for sharing update with image.

Your Dell Support is for Alienware Area-51m R1, Dell does not give the original version a Revision number, but on this forum and the internet you should declare R1 in your system description.

Dell Support for Area-51m, Drivers & Downloads released the current Alienware Command Center Application Version 5.3.2.0, A00 on 17 Jun 2021 and using Revo Uninstaller to fully remove the old AWCC (and OC Controls) application will allow the current version to load correctly.

The AWCC Fusion tab requires the OC Controls application, but something is not working properly. Please open Revo Uninstaller to see if OC Controls is in the installed applications list. If it is, use Revo Uninstaller to fully remove it, then Restart (not Shut Down). When Area-51m boots into the windows operating system, wait for Task Manager to give very low CPU percentage, then run AWCC which should automatically install OC Controls in the background. [Or ask you to install a particular version of OC Controls. Right click and Run as administrator, to allow OC Controls to be installed, when successful window appears, Restart (not Shut Down). ]

Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Hi Crimsom (thank you for sticking with this),

I have done all of these steps multiple times. I have just done them again (exactly your instructions) and have included screen shots to show that I have.

I first use Revo to uninstall on Advance to fully remove the old AWCC (and OC Controls)  Then I used scan twice and selected to remove everything.  I then closed Revo and reopened to confirm that OC Controls is not installed.

I end up with same outcome: AWC opens and the the two functions requiring OC Controls just show the Spin icon and nothing happens. I show this state in the final screen shot and also that my that I am connected to the internet. So there is no progress.

Hi @DELL-Chris M  do not know why user DellGumby has opened two threads, essentially on the same topic. Trying to respond to DellGumby is now a mess. Not sure how the Community Manager can, or should respond. Ideally, postulate merge these two threads and delete any duplicate posts, so that a single thread becomes meaningful. Thank you in anticipation. Kind regards, crimsom.

Hi @DellGumby  thank you for sharing update.

Guess that there should have been an AWCC version that was fully functional, so focus on installing that old version, and resist the temptation to update.

Dell needs to work on their AWCC so that this application works correctly. If the AWCC application was not integrated into Windows 10, but a stand-alone application, this would simplify troubleshoot by Dell, Warranty technicians and many users. Dell's warranty response is to replace the expensive motherboard, which has been soft bricked by the AWCC update utility.

Note: The incremental Restart (not Shut Down) steps are required, because Restart saves the Revo Uninstaller changes to the operating system (unlike Shut Down).
