Area-51m R1, Black screen when I power on
My Area 51 m worked fine yesterday when I shut it off. Today when I go to turn it on the power button lights up but my screen has remained black. This hasn’t happened before and this is my first real problem with it. I’m unable to even power it back off by holding down the power button. Please help.

Hello,
Does the power button blink in a certain sequence? If it does then this could help pinpoint the issue. See link below.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to see if it will display on there?
You can also try a power drain by unplugging the power adapter and system battery and holding the power button down for 60 seconds. This can sometimes (rarely) reset the laptop to fix a simple issue.
It is also possible that you have a GPU, LCD or motherboard issue.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Kittyclawz_
Hold down the "D" key, push the power button, release the power button, wait 2-3 seconds and release the "D" key
The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.
After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.
Post your results.

Hi @Kittyclawz_ welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Please shine a light obliquely (at an angle) across the screen, if a faint image can be seen, the backlight is not working. The backlight is part of the screen, and the screen will have to be replaced. Connect the laptop's HDMI out port to an external monitor and the screen image should appear, so that the laptop can be used.

The power drain worked for me. It booted to "Updating Windows. Do not turn off your computer." I had chose the Start/Power/Update and restart option previous to this. Something during the update caused this.
