The service manual indicates the ports are part of the system board -- the ports are not separately replaceable.

Since you'd be looking at well over $1,000 for a board -- you may want to purchase a USB hub instead.

Thanks for the replay, so all the ports are part of the mother board then?  even the generic two on the right hand side?

As far as I can tell from the service manual, yes - there is no separate I/O board.

Ok. time to crack her open and see of there is a loose connection. Hopefully its just the port and I can solder on a new one.

Even if that were possible - -and the port is soldered through a multilayer board (i.e., this is not a job for a soldering iron), if you have to replace the part, you'll need a source for it, which in turn would mean buying a board to salvage parts from.

If it's just one port, a USB hub is a far safer idea -- if the board isn't damaged now, it very well could be if you try soldering it.
