Area-51m, operating system not on SSD?

Seems like you only see bad stuff in the forums.

I bought a loaded out Area-51m and it came with the OS installed on the mechanical drive and not on the SSD. I had barely even looked at the system and got a call from support telling me of the problem. I didn't call them, they called me, but looked and sure enough that's what had been done.

It took awhile, but the support tech (Leonardo) did a fantastic job cloning the drive and moving it to the proper one. He was polite and professional through the entire process.

There can be problems with anything you buy, but IMO, what makes a company a great company is only partially about making great products, it's supporting what they make after the sale and in this scenario I rate the computer and the support at an A++.

...did I mention the Area-51m is the meanest system I have ever seen and is a flat out dream to work on? Well it is.

Hi @SteveDude,

We're glad you had a good experience.

Thank you for sharing this with the community

What caused you to think this wasn't a scam?

When I got  a call from someone saying they are working for Dell and that my Alienware Area 51m had the OS installed on the wrong drive they told me they wanted remote access to the laptop for 3 hours to do the install correctly.

Since this is exactly the same line all the Microsoft scammers use to get remote access - and is exactly the same kind of scam warned against on Dell's blog and in other forums - I reported this to Dell CustomerCare.

Your post makes me think this is legit - but why did you decide to give Dell the remote access since the line they are using is the standard line used by scammers?

Could you share the name and contact info on the person you worked with?

I would not let anyone touch the system.. even if they act like they're from Dell, unless I can call the support line and get the same person.
