M14x R1, not starting, need help

Hello,

My Alienware M14X was in working condition till few days ago. Suddenly it has stopped working completely.

Power-supply is working because I can see the blue light on input plug. The moment plug is inserted in laptop, a loud ‘tock’ sound is heard and plug light is turned off.

Please let me know what could be wrong and is there any hope I can still use it. Laptop is still very good for documentation and small programming tasks.

Thank you.

There is a short circuit in the system somewhere.  This would be the first suspect;

You'll need a voltmeter at least to check the system board -- if you have one,  you can see if you can find where the break is.  If not, and the AC adapter is in good shape, check inside the USB ports with a bright flashlight for bent pins.  If none are evident, replace the DC input jack.  And if that doesn't solve the problem, the odds are overwhelming that you'll need to replace the system board.

There's definitely a short on the board. Most often it's related to the GPU but unfortunately the GPU is soldered to the M14x board so a board replacement is required. Occasionally it's the power jack.

You can try removing all the components that you can (Memory, CPU, etc) to see if the adapter light stays on but my gut says it will nee a replacement board.
