Dell used to have a separate software download section on their website where you could download the original additional software that came with your machine but I think they scrapped it years ago. I assume that this is what you need.

I believe you need the 'Webcam Central' software but I'm not sure where to find it these days.

You may need the original software or driver that came with the machine. Use your service tag in the Support Section on Dell's website and go to the Drivers and Downloads section. Check for anything related to the webcam

yes... my thoughts exactly.

except that, i have already tried that, hence the reason for my quest here in this forum.

search has brought no results for a webcam to work on my Dell Alienware laptop

all references to webcam on the 'Dell' website refer to Dell_SX2210 and other models but none refer to the M14xR2 that i need to rely on working on my laptop

yes, @mattyb3  oh if only, dell would set up a website with older software to get this going.  the laptop works well, even after all these years, that its hard to let it go, for a basic model.  i have found that the 'integrated camera' popped into Devices, but this disappeared after first use of the camera.   i have looked at my CD disc that came with this laptop for a driver but, no luck.  then several updates later, it popped back under Devices and appears to be stable for now.  Windows OS sure has a lot of nerve to replace camera driver with camera app that may or may not work.
