M15 R5 2nd SSD not Being Detected After Leaving Idle
Among all of the issues that this gaming laptop has, this one has to be the most frustrating...
I bought a 1TB Western Digital NVMe SSD (WD_BLACK SN750) earlier this year to use as a second drive. I also bought a fitting SSD mount and a heatsink + thermalpads for the SSD, as recommended by an avid laptop reviewer and tester from Youtube (Mash IT). Upon installing the SSD and heatsink, I had no issues: none for months in fact.
I typically leave the laptop on my desk, hooked up to the power, two monitors, a mouse, keyboard, speakers, and a microphone. Some days, I'd leave it on all day with no issues, because it was really inconvenient to pick up the laptop, open the lid, turn it on, close the lid, and set it back down. It wasn't until I moved out of my house that when I would leave it running idle for several hours, it just wouldn't detect that second SSD; the whole drive was missing, Steam games and all! I immediately restarted it and it didn't seem to fix the issue. I frantically tried to research this topic, but found nothing. It wasn't until I took apart the laptop, took out the SSD, and put it back in that it finally showed up. I thought I was out of the woods until the same thing happened the next day. I gave up and shut it down, as I wasn't taking the thing apart again... The following morning, it reappeared. I suppose leaving it off for a while temporarily fixes it? It's gotten to the point where I just don't leave it running for that long without me using it for fear of this happening, but most days, I can just restart and the drive shows up. Today, my fiancée used the laptop and forgot to shut it down for hours, and of course the drive isn't showing again. Restarts aren't fixing this, and honestly it's due time for me to post about this.
I have the M15 R5 configuration of:
-RTX 3070
-Ryzen 7 5800H
-16GBs of RAM
-512GBs of storage
-1440p 240Hz display

Have you been able to rectify this situation, my sons laptop which is pretty much the exact same specs is having the issue with a secondary ssd. Resetting works occasionally, however at times I have to completely shut the laptop down to remove he drive and reseat

I am having the SAME issue and it is beyond frustrating for I too have steam games and music files on this drive. This second drive for me is a Toshiba 2TB so It cant be a firmware or third party issue for the first SSD mine came with with OS on it was also a Toshiba. I gave up and decided to Move most things off the drive before it vanished but it still stinks. Mine was a brand new one as well, 64GB Ram 1TB SSD stock and I added a second 2TB drive so this bothered me a lot. Still no resolve too is making me think twice about Dell and Alienware for the future.
