M15x R1, scroll and num flashing
Hi and Good Day,
I have bought this Dell Alienware M15x R1 since 2009 or 2010 in Singapore. My M15x R1 keeps on NUM light and CAPS are blinking but the CAPS stay as it is. CPU Fan are spinning and the GPU fan not spin. Before I have also encountered to this similar problems, the only thing I did was back then I took out the RAM and by using eraser wait for a few minutes then its okay it boot right way up. But then, when I want to clean the NVIDIA GTX 260M that was built in this platform, it starts flashing.
Are this saying that the MOBO is dead, system failure?
By the way this Dell Alienware is out of warranty. Please someone could assist me what method should I do?
1) CMOS Battery (done checked) taking out. Having the same issues.

Hi @Bong welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Support for Alienware M15x Documentation includes Top Solutions to keep your system serviceable.
From your description POST is trying to complete, but you did not say if it did, or if screen works, splash screen appears with F2 and F12 options, or that boot into operating system was successful.
If POST fails to detect RAM, it will not complete and there will be no screen. If that is the problem, the RAM cards need reseating.
Laptop without battery is designed to function as Desktop on ac adapter power. Check that 10 year old laptop works when battery disconnected. Does the ac adapter diagnostic light remain on when plugged into laptop?

Hello,
The image below will tell you what your problem could be, based on the blinking lights. I think you had a typo above. Is the CAPS blinking or not? What is the SCROLL lock light doing?
It's quite common for the GPU to fail and these are very old laptops now so I wouldn't be surprised if the 260M has failed. If it's the SCROLL and NUM locks that are flashing then my guess is that it will be the GPU causing the problem. You can replace it easily.
