The m17 R1 supports 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM.

The m17 R2 supports 16GB DDR4 2666 RAM. The memory is integrated on the system board and cannot be upgraded after purchase.

thank you for your answer.

thank you for your answer unfortunately, I am forced to return my long-awaited acquisition, a 2300US laptop that you can not improve the ram at least, it is a nonsense, someone should talk to the marketing people of ALIENWARE, I think they are badly analyzing the target group for their gaming laptops, anyway it was my fault, because I didn`t investigate enough. but anyway, I think that their website does not clarify enough. the ram is welded to the motherboard and has no slots, at least it will bring more ram is understandable, but 16GB not scalable today is absurd. super processor, super video card, but ram?

It has to be one of the more stupid decisions that Dell ever made.

Also, the older M17x models (R3 and R4) can support 32GB DDR3 memory.

Our apologies. The Alienware marketing team thought that it had presented clearly that the m17 R2 could only do a maximum of 16GB DDR4 2666MHz. As JOcean correctly stated, the m17 R1 can do 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM.

Hi, could Dell please provide a filtered list of laptop models that meet the following criteria:

1) has a 17.3" screen
2) has an RTX (non max-Q) GPU
3) supports up to 64 GB of RAM
4) does NOT have RAM soldered into the motherboard

If your goal is gaming, there's only one:  the Alienware area 51m R2.

If your goal is work, there's the Precision 7000 series mobile workstations (but not that the GPUs used in these aren't well suited to gaming).
