M17x R3, Alienware “On Screen Display” has unusual functionality
Alienware M17x R3
Hello all!
The last few days I’ve been posting over various parts of the Alienware forums tackling small issues with my new to me M17x r3.
Literally the last issue I have is with the “alienware on screen display” driver. Uninstalled ALL the soft touch buttons work except the one that brings up the AlienFX app, with it installed (Win 7 with compatibility mode version, or Win 8.1 version from the R4) Only the AlienFX button works, and the rest of the soft touch buttons (volume, play/pause, etc.) quit working. Obviously the workaround here is to manually open AlienFX and not use the button (with OSD uninstalled of course) so that everything else does work. But has anyone ever encountered that before or know why?
Thanks!
Ryan

Please let me clarify.. I meant Alienware Command Center, not AlienFX, as that is part of said Command Center.

Hi Ryan,
The quick media keys should all be working so it's a strange one. I have a few R3's at home so I can check if those are working once I finish work today, that won't be for a while though.
If the AWCC button is the only one not working then maybe there's a problem with that key or the cable.

So, it’s not that it doesn’t work at all, it works when the driver is installed, but the other buttons don’t, and then when the driver gets uninstalled, the other buttons work, but the awcc button doesn’t.. definitely perplexing.. but I’ve just got it uninstalled for now as I don’t need a special button just to open one program. But it would be nice to know what the conflict is someday.

That’s really weird. I’m home now so I’ll have a look at one of my R3’s. My guess is that it’s a driver issue but that seems pretty obvious at this stage. I’d go to the Support page and make sure all the chipset drivers are installed.
