M17xr2 gpu upgrade

Hi , im changing the gpu on my laptop from a 4870hd to a 5870hd and was wanting to know do I have to change something in the bios so the system picks up the new gpu before I fit the new gpu?.

I have tried installing the new gpu without making any changes but when I turn my laptop on I get a blank screen with scroll and caps flashing, does this mean the new gpu (5870m) is faulty or have I missed something?, thanks

Make sure that any gpu you choose can run on your 240w psu. That gpu you installed needs a much bigger psu- 450w psu is the minimum. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-5870.c253
