Using the laptop without battery

I just noticed that the battery on my Alienware 15 r3 has swollen up

So can I use the laptop with the battery disconnected from the motherboard and just the power cable plugged in?

It's a bad idea.  Since you'll need to remove the base cover to access the connector anyway, get rid of the battery at the same time.

Once a battery starts swelling, you could easily see the case destroyed without warning -- or a battery fire in the worst case.

You need to physically remove the battery from the system before it either destroys the chassis or worse, vents and catches fire.  Recycle it immediately.

Yes, the system will function just fine without a battery.

The battery in my Alienware M17 (which runs very hot) was swollen. The result is that it damaged the keyboard ribbon cable and so the keyboard had to be replaced. The battery is permanently removed but when I power up, I get a screen telling me the battery is not detected.

How can I stop the screen appearing?
