The only source for a part that new is going to be Dell - if in the USA, call Dell Spare Parts:

1-800-357-3355

Outside the US, call your local Dell office and ask for Spare Parts.

"Newer model is m17ixf-bw"

Thanks for this info! :D

Whom did you talk to? I called up Dell support and they were rude and unhelpful and *wouldn't even give me the new per-key RGB part number* >:( .

I think the new keyboard is compatible as they both connect via USB ribbon cables, IIRC.

Again, with whom did you speak? I called up Dell tech support and they were rude and completely unhelpful and wouldn't give me any information about the new keyboard part number or any type of upgrade.

Thanks,

No problem they just said to be sure before i ordered the part and it was 120ish  i called 866-287-6727 and i believe i pressed 3 and explained that i purchased an alienware r5 when it was released and i had 4 zone lighting and was looking to upgrade my keyboard to the new per key rgb lighting and they transferred me to a new rep and he gave me the Newer m17ixf-bw and told me its the only other keyboard for the alienware r5 to call tech support and make sure it would work or give me the feature im looking for and he gave me the manufacturing part number as well 44rc9 mpn also the tech handling my repair service told me that as soon as i get my pc back ask him about it again and he will open a ticket to find everything out for me so i should get my pc back sometime this week and i will keep you updated if i find out b4 you do i also have the techs number and extension that told me about the keyboard if that helps any

Sorry for the belated reply...

Thanks for the update and the info! :D

Unfortunately, I've gone through **bleep** with Dell tech support and they won't even give me the keyboard part number. If you could keep me apprised of how it goes with your obtaining the new keyboard I'd be grateful. :)

Thanks,

Well, I've been in contact with Dell, and I'm getting conflicting information : Some reps tell me that the new keyboard needs its ribbon cables replaced with the cables for the 4-zone lighting keyboard, but, other people associated with Dell have told me that the per-key RGB keyboard's ribbon cables *are* compatible with my laptop's mainboard and that the only problem is the macro keys.

If you could please give me the rep's / tech's number and extension I'd greatly appreciate it... Dell was supposed to get back to me last Friday, but they never did -- don't know what the problem is...
