I'm assuming windows 10 is on the computer....

Two troubleshooting steps you could try to get battery to perform normally:

1. Type Troubleshooter onto [Cortana] search box, select Power, hopefully computer runs on battery power now

 If above step doesn't work,

2. Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft ACPI Battery driver in device manager

 - Press the Windows key + R key on the keyboard. In the Run box, type devmgmt.msc and press Okay

 - In device manager, stroll down to Batteries and then expand it. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, select Uninstall

 - Select OK to confirm uninstalling the driver. Reboot the system.Microsoft should automatically install driver again.

If none of the above work, generate a battery report by following steps below. Report back Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity.

1. Press the Windows key and R key. In the Run box, type cmd and press OK.

2. In Command Prompt window, type powercfg /batteryreport and press enter. (note space between powerfg and /batteryreport).

3. Open File Explorer and browse to C:\Users\Your_Username\.

4. Double-click battery-report.html to open the report in the browser.

Windows 10 Battery Report: What It Is And How to Use It:

Design Capacity (87,550 mWh) is the actual capacity of the battery it was designed for

Full Charge Capacity(91,240 mWh) is the consumption of the battery's capacity. Over the period of time or usage. Full Charge Capacity get reduced as the battery ages which results in lesser hours of usage between charges.

I tried those yesterday, but nothing has changed.  Does anyone know what 7 blinks of power button means?

Here is output of report.  You can see where I reinstalled adapter.

Also can see exactly where something went wrong - between 17:53 - 8:09

Dang! You barely use your computer on battery power. Does the light blink an amber or white color?

In the meantime, select Troubleshooting and System diagnostic lights in the link below. Hopefully this will help determine what causing the problem.

Light only blinks red 7 or 8 times (very hard to count as it blinks pretty fast), with a slight pause and repeats without stopping - as long as the case lid is up.  It will blink even if the computer is not on, as long as the adapter is plugged in.

I normally use it on battery power ...  Not sure why the last couple of days I haven't... now I cant use battery power at all.  Eventhough it shows 46%, it will immediately turn off when AC is removed.  I have opened the case and unplugged and replugged in the battery.

Troubleshooters have been run.  All of the tests come back as passed.

Laptop runs completely normally when on.

The amber light blinking rapidly usually indicate battery has failed outright, and needs to be replace with a new genuine battery replacement. Before replacing battery back into the computer, you press " Power On " button for about 20 - 30 seconds to release Static Flea Power? If yes, run Dell Diagnostic to check status of the Battery Health and other hardware within the computer. You could do this by following steps below:

1. Power off system

2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously until you see Preparing One Time Boot Menu in top right corner of screen. In Dell Preboot menu, select Diagnostic. After quick tests, select Primary Battery, and then click Thorough Test Mode. Report back any error code.

If all your troubleshooting failed on the battery then it's time to purchase a replacement battery from Dell.

Hi @JCW002  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Is your operating system Windows 10 x64 or Windows 11 x64?

The Alienware m15 series has Hybrid Power Design and requires power from both ac adapter and battery under heavy loading. Battery discharge is an expected behavior of hybrid power design and frequent charging is required. When hybrid power function is disabled, the system will throttle during heavy loading and may cause performance issues.

The BIOS battery status is not particularly informative. Please create Battery Report. The Alienware m15 R1 system is behaving as if the battery cannot hold its charge and requires a new OEM replacement battery. Dell battery warranty is for first year only, and not covered if extended Dell warranty purchased.

OEM Alienware m15 / m17 60Wh 4-cell Laptop Battery - DP/N 1F22N
OEM Alienware m15 / m17 90Wh 6-cell Laptop Battery - DP/N XRGXX

When battery delivered, check white label, for correct DP/N and date month/year beneath square matrix is less than 6 months old. Get extra purchase protection by shopping on Amazon, eBay, etc.

Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from user that is not employed by Dell. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.
