m15 R1, change UEFI boot order when adding a NVME SSD (SOLVED)

Hi, so I was looking for a solution for this, and it actually took me a lot of time, as I tried to find it.

Instead I ended up solving it by trying to find the way myself.

I have a Alienware m15 R1 2018, and it had the OEM HDD only, I added an NVME SSD, (in the port 1 btw, which was another thing to look for). So after adding it I cloned up my previous disk (HDD) to the NVMe, instead of performing new installation, as it would take me too much time, I will manage to delete useless stuff later.

I used AOMEI free, and I think is the best tool from the ones I've tried (easeus and minitool partition wizard) minitool didnt copy image partition and easeus wanted me to boot from other device.

So I was looking at other forum.. https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-General-Read-Only/How-to-change-boot-order-permanently-with-UEFI/td-p/5633819

It was a complete waste of time.

Once you have your SSD cloned all you have to do is:

1. Press F2 during boot.
2. Deactivate UEFI secure boot
3. Add new boot>select the wanted device> find BOOT folder  > BOOTX64.EFI
4. Select the boot source in your new disk BOOTX64.EFI (in my case was about 3 paths from root).
5. It will ask you to give it a name, which can be any you want, for example the brand of your new NVMe.

Once that is completed you will have the new boot in your list, and you can reactivate secure UEFI boot.

DONE, your pc will boot from your new NVMe.

100% approve, i recently upgrade my oem hdd to samsung 970 evo plus nvme m.2. i looked all over the internet on how to transfer without having to reinstall windows and have the system recognize m.2 for booting, it was all a waste.

once i cloned my data from hdd to m.2 ( i used samsung data migration tool)

i went in to bios

deactive uefi,

add new boot, find the file, and name it,

once u do that it will appear on your booting options and you can move it up to option 1.

it wasnt as hard as hard what internet shows, now the whole systems works super fast.

When you disable uefi secure boot, two options will now be in the secure boot options area. You then choose add new boot > ssd drive you wish to use> name it and then save and exit reboot done.

Hi @EdRodalv Recently upgraded M.2 NVMe OS(C:) boot drive from 1TB to 2TB capacity, and used Acronis True Image OEM cloning application. My existing Dell BIOS/UEFI and Windows Operating System automatically accepted the new 2TB OS(C:) boot drive without any other changes.

How did you disable the UEFI file? Mine is greyed out at UEFI in Bios Boot.
