m15 R2, flashing red power button, battery doesn't work after installing latest BIOS
Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with my laptop that the battery is not working at all it is charging normally. i installed the latest BIOS couple of days ago and the same night I noticed the battery was draining rather quickly and last 20-25% depeleted in moments. the same thing happened again one more time and today my power button is continously flashing red and laptop only stays on as long as I keep the AC source plugged in.
I checked a similar post where he ended up changing the battery to resolve the issue but I cannot get my head around the concept that this happened the day I installed my BIOS. it cannot be a coincidence like this.
Have anyone else faced this issue? is there a way I can revert back my BIOS and sees how it will respond because I have never faced any issue like this where the battery was working fine 3+ hours back and it just died in last than 48 hours.

Do a battery discharge and disconnect the battery from the motherboard.
Disconnect the CMOS battery and then disconnect the AC adapter.
Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Then only plug in the battery and leave the CMOS unplugged.
Hold CTRL+ESC and turn on the laptop.

Are you able to configure in the BIOS that it can use the battery now? Do you have a message saying the battery isnt connected or is not an authenthic dell.

I verified in the BIOS setting.
Battery Health: This Battery is performing normally.
I am thinking to still remove the CMOS and leave it out and battery out for a little bit?
Secondly, this all happened right after BIOS update could that have some kind of impact on this? this all seems to unreal to be a co incidence....

I use the alienware update utility to update all drivers/BIOS. As I mentioned in the original post my laptop started acting funny the very same day I installed the BIOS, the reason of that was so that other people can share with me if they faced any similar challenges and if so, kindly share what did they do to resolve the issue.

Hi @mmafa thank you for sharing update.
The Alienware Update utility and Dell SupportAssist application, both install over the internet, and should not be used to install BIOS updates. BIOS update Installation Instructions are very specific.

thanks for the knowledge.... i have been using alienware utility for managing my updates... I am not sure but I might have missed some BIOS update... the version installed is 2.12 and it is the latest one available on the dell website... what do you recommend, should i try to downgrade the BIOS? or replace battery... I am kinda lost here... I am in a remote area where I cannot get a new battery right away...

just another thing to add ... when I boot up the system I get a selection menu from supportAssist right at the very beginning.. it says
"Real Time Clock Error
System SMOS Checksum Bad
Time-of-day not set - please run setup program "
it gives me option for 1:Continue 2: BIOS Setup 3: Diagnose
I appreciate your feedback guys!. Thanks

So thats a CMOS battery issue. Replacing that should be easy but I recommend doing a BIOS reflash to the same version if possible and see if that helps.

Hi @mmafa thank you for sharing update.
Although Dell BIOS updates are provided, there is no requirement to install BIOS update unless it has a specific function you want.
The BIOS updates are very small, and incremental installation is required to install all the functions. However, you may not want the functions in a specific BIOS update and skip to the update you want. So if everything is working on your system, there is no requirement to downgrade the BIOS to an Old version.

Hi @mmafa thank you for sharing m15 R2 Operating System is Windows 11.
Look at image for Battery capacity history. When full charge capacity is very low, it is time to get new OEM battery. How to Check Laptop Battery Health in Windows 11 [Guide] | Beebom The following images says my 17 R5 Battery full charge capacity is still very good at 91.7%.
