m15 R2, keyboard: q, a, z, and 1 keys not working
About a week ago my q, a, z, and 1 keys have stopped working. It has been working on and off -- and there is no particular or obvious reason as to why they stop working and start working again. I saw one of the pinned posts on this forum that has a fix for the R5 and R6 versions of the m15 laptop's keyboard and I was wondering if there is also a fix for the R2 keyboard? I have tried many solutions so far such as updating via SupportAssist and looking into bios, but nothing has worked.

If no hardware issue - Please try these options one by one and check after each option.
1. Till your problem is resolved and you need to do urgent and limited typing, use Onscreen Keyboard - Type OSK in Windows Start Search Box (Cortana) > Click On-Screen Keyboard
2. Run Keyboard Troubleshooter
Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down and click Keyboard > Run the troubleshooter > Follow onscreen directions
3. Uninstall & reinstall Keyboard Driver
Windows Key+X (Or right click on Start) > Click Device Manager > Expand Keyboards > Right click on Standard PS/2 Keyboard > Uninstall > Reboot the computer to reinstall
(if this is ASUS, you will need to install ATKACPI driver & ATK hotkey-related utilities corresponding to your model. Don't execute step 3 in this case)

Have the same issue with my Alienware 15r3. I am pretty sure it is hardware issue from opening and closing a laptop lid. If I press right top of the screen, all keys work. Or if I leave a screen open for a long time it starts working as well. There must be some jammed cables occuring with the time.

@eBurn @PhanDUy hey! I ran across this post today and had this problem myself. I just fixed my alienware 15 r2 keyboard, well kind of at least. I found a temporary fix, but realistically I think I'd need to replace the motherboard, as the ports where the keyboard ribbon cables plug in has quite a finicky connection. I found that the KB and KB BL cables seem to be fine plugged in, but that the third cable next to KB has a really odd line up of the pins, and my keyboard works when I wiggle the ribbon cable out of its plug until it is almost unplugged. It this position, the pins make contact and I can type! The ports seem to be made of pretty weak plastic and the pins on the motherboard side seem to have been pushed in too far to the point they don't like to make contact. I'd recommend checking that cable and wiggling it around to different positions to see if that fixes it, good luck!
