I had a look at the area51m R2 spec document and that laptop comes with a 2080 Super (not a Max Q Design) which I guess means that they're not exactly the same thing. And the Max performance thing can be a little confusing - so the paperwork I received before/after purchase really should say max q design (I don't think it does - and that screenshot isn't the same device I got because mine came with the i9).
@talkandplay Dell were very good and let me swap my laptop and I bought the R4 with same cpu but a 3080 gpu and it runs quite well. It's hard finding the balance between good cpu and gpu and ram - at a relatively affordable price - but the 3080 and the i9 processor seem to be doing what I need at the moment with rendering, etc. Good luck

1. the maxQ is designed for slimmer/lighter notebooks. It's not the notebook version - it is the version for smaller/thinner/lighter notebooks.
2. In the m17, the max P (performance) is offered. In the 15" model, it's max Q only.

Reference area51m R2 spec ,can you confirm it is NOT a Max-Q 2070 /2080 ?
How disappointing would that be especially Dell /AW bragging about desktop parts.
I was thinking of buying this model with i9 10900k CPU, most likely go with 2070s GPU as little difference upgrading to 2080s for over £200
