m15 R3, how to configure a raid 0?

I just recently bought an m15r3 with a 512Gb config. But I was surprised when I learned that they’ve installed 2 2230 instead of a 2280 m.2. So, I wanted to change it since it is still fresh out of the box and not much apps installed. So, I bought 2 samsung 970 pro 500gb for upgrade. But, I am not sure IF i could setup raid 0 properly since this is my first time using raid 0 config. I am still familiarizing my self. Can some one help me please so I won’t brick my alien and the ssd. Thanks.

Hi @Km33   welcome to this user to user forum. Users are not employees of Dell and offer their personal opinions that you are under no obligation to accept.

You have a new Alienware m15 R3 Laptop and are surprised that is has two M.2 sold state drives in Raid 0 configuration and not a single M.2 SSD as your OS (C:) drive. These laptops are being sold with the option of two drives in Raid 0 configuration. Please check that your original order is for the Raid 0 configuration. You should not be given or accept a configuration that was not ordered.

When creating a clone OS (C:) drive as part of your disaster recovery process, the Raid 0 configuration creates additional problems if your system does not have four internal M.2 2280 slots.

If you have a single fast or ultra fast PCIe NVMe card as your OS (C:) drive, there are no home user gaming discernible performance benefits in converting to two NVMe drives in Raid 0 configuration. Raid 0 shares information between two drives and it is not possible to replace a single drive of this pair, when for example: reached end of life, want to increase storage capacity, etc.

You have a decision to make. Do you want to accept this new Alienware m15 R3 Laptop that you have been given, or get the one that was originally ordered.

Please share an update. Thank you.
