m15 R4, CPU temps 85C to 98C

Hi there,

I am new to the Alienware community and just received my first laptop from them about a month ago. I haven't had any major problems with it while running most games that I play, but recently I have been seeing some concerning temperatures while playing Sid Meier's Civ 6. I am constantly running into temps ranging from 85C to 98C. My main question is whether or not it is safe to run the game for a prolonged period of time with these temps? Is there anything that I can do to reduce this? I am not seeing any performance issues with the game. The max temp I have seen on other games is about 87C while playing Escape from Tarkov.

Thank you in advance.

This is an unexpected Intel CPU design flaw, and Intel has no solution. [Go to Here

Turn off any overclocking and make sure TurboBoost is off. Then set the clockspeed manually to 3.2Ghz and then try playing it again after it cooled down. You really dont need the CPU to be at 5ghz to even play at 1440p 144hz.

I have m17 r4, and solution for me is using ThrottleStop. I'm able to undervolt CPU by -0.120 and it helps a lot, never seen temperature higher 90 after that. I'm on BIOS 1.3.1, don't know if undervolting still works on 1.4.0

What speeds are you running at? Cause mines like I said was set to 3.2Ghz and its perfect while gaming it reaches 78C as well as the GPU running at 72C.

Thank you for your explanation. I turned off TurboBoost, But I do not know how to set the clockspeed to 3.2 Ghz. I searched the web, but couldn't find anything useful. Could you please explain that? Thanks

Hi @reillymoore4  CPU Temp Offset Slider is a brand-new Alienware Command Center (AWCC) feature for Alienware laptops. User can manually change the CPU max Temp setting to be anywhere between 85~100ºC.

While forcing the CPU to stay at it's stock clock speed and turning off Turbo works in the sense that it won't overheat, you are downgrading your CPU's potential performance by at least 50% and throwing away hundreds of dollars. Intel just loves to design nonfunctional products I guess. I wish Dell's 3 year warranties(another several hundreds of dollars out the window) had at least some usefulness.
