m15 R4, keyboard does not work, again
Alienware m15 R4
This is beyond frustrating at this point. I have had this Alienware m15 R4 for a year. It's in great condition, used mainly in a desktop manner. No damage or anything. However, after some recent updates my keyboard has begun to work intermittently. A Dell representative has remoted in to the computer and went through a trial of resetting and uninstalling/reinstalling whatever. A tech came to my house and replaced the keyboard and motherboard. However the RGB lights on the keyboard were unresponsive. I then called Alienware tech support, where they then remoted in and reinstalled AWCC (Alienware Command Center). In the AWCC it showed two built-in keyboards, one was the unresponsive one and one was the working one. The working keyboard shown in the AWCC allowed us to change the RGB, cool. However, two days later I'm right back to where I started, AWCC only shows the one non-working keyboard, so can't change RGB and the keyboard functionality does not work. I'm guessing the system is detecting some ethereal keyboard that exists on some different plane. Someone just fix this, please. This is once again, very annoying.

Another update: I went into Device Manager, and under "System Devices", I found "Intel Management Engine Interface #1". I right clicked on that, and clicked Properties. I then went to "Power Management" and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and restarted my computer.
The keyboard is working again..
I'll report back if this doesn't solve the issue long term. Hope this helps.

I restarted my PC this morning to check some BIOS settings (didn't change or save anything) and lost the keyboard again upon entering Windows.
I haven't done anything to my PC in two days except install MSI Afterburner. I was having the problem before installing it so I don't think there is a connection there...
Ughhh.. please fix this issue!

Because it's a very short sighted attempt to extract more money out of its consumers. Long term I will never buy Dell again and my family will never buy Dell and I'll tell everyone I know not to buy Dell!

It's because it's a scheme to get more money from you with tech support.

This has happened to me on this laptop after a little over a year. Before this I had a MacBook pro from 2008 that's still working perfectly. It's a big scheme to generate more money from tech support. If more people filed complaints with the Federal Trade commission may be Dell wouldn't get away with this. I will personally never buy a dell product again.

Just popping in to let you know that this issue continues to occur. Your ability to build computers has been permanently destroyed, Dell. In the end, I'll be turning my Alienware m15 r6 into someone else's problem since I use Macs for most things anyway.
It worked for me by using the on-screen keyboard to continue, uninstalling the unrecognized USB device in Device Manager, then downloading the BIOS update and restarting.
It is greatly appreciated that other users have submitted workarounds and fixes. It's beyond me why Dell is still unable to resolve this issue after more than two years.

Mine appears to be working again after trying the steps on this page: Alienware Laptop Keyboard Not Working [FIXED] (simplefixing.com)
I did not do the battery drain. I also delete every keyboard device in my device manager and restarted. Also before trying the items on that link, I also did most of the stuff listed in this thread. I am not sure which combination of actions caused it to start working again. But so far it appears to be working after multiple days of shutdowns/reboots.
Few other notes:
my laptop has been on Windows 11 Since 2021, the keyboard was working just fine in Jan, i did not notice the issue with the keyboard until March because I often use a razor usb keyboard.

I still can not get my trackpad to work even though the keyboard is mostly working. The windows key doesn't work. It has stopped working twice since trying the items on the link above, both times reboots corrected the issue.
