m15 R7, keyboard not working
Alienware m15 R7
m15 R7, keyboard not working
Today I updated windows 11 on my notebook and when I turned it back on the keyboard stopped working completely.
I received this notebook a month ago and unfortunately and problems began to appear.
Does anyone have any idea what I should do?

Same here, I'll save you some money.
1) Replacing the keyboard won't work.
2) Getting a new SSD with new windows 11 will work for a week, and then windows will install SOMETHING while you're not looking and you'll be back to square one.
I've been dealing with this since about August-ish.
I've had everything I listed done to it and nothing is working. This is the version of the laptop with the 3080 installed and all of the options. Almost $3000 if I'm not mistaken. This is my first ever alienware PC and I'm pretty much on the verge of tossing it in the closet, ripping out the useful parts, and getting a Lenovo Y-series.

My keyboard still functions, so I guess I am one of the lucky ones. However, all my lights, except for the on/off button do not work. I have tried the hot keys, looked in the BIOS (The functionality they show in the how-to videos is not in my BIOS, ie "keyboard backlight on/off), reset BIOS to factory settings, uninstalled the last Windows update...I have done everything I can think of, and has been suggested by Dell, and it still does not work. Alienware Command Center doesn't even recognize the keyboard and other lighting, as the old version used to. I am very frustrated. I feel bad for you all, who do not have any keyboard functionality.

@samsmith9994 after brining it to one of my professors at UCF he diagnosed the issue. it appears that the motherboard for this model has several places where it will short out. this includes,
the screen ground wire frying the wireless card and then the mobo
the metal thermal paste leaking out past the incredibly insufficient plastic gasket they have holding it in and frying everything else around it.
and the control chip for the cherry keyboard having a heat related issue where it will overheat due to the placement under the battery and the tiny smt (those tiny, nearly, microscopic circuit board parts) burning out and shorting it. this, specifically, will work for a while after doing a clean install of Windows because the generic software that governs how win-11 will interact with the keyboard will let you use it. but the moment it updates and installs the proper firmware, you're pretty much
just ditch the thing, it's not worth it.
