The GPU on these is soldered to the mainboard, so you'd have to replace the entire system board (including the CPU, which is also soldered in). Expect that to be an expensive proposition - probably not far shy of $1,000.
Nice i was looking at them second hand on ebay with a second hand 2080TI. That should help gain 30 fps at 1440. It should cost about $1000 to $1200 though.
It shuts off the internal GPU to save power. You wouldn’t want the CPU that is handling both the Internal discrete GPU and the Graphics AMP because of PCIe lanes and Thermals and Power such and such.
My son also has the m17r2 with the NVIDIA 1660 Ti graphic card. He wants to run Roblox VR with the Oculus Quest 2. One person told us we CAN'T upgrade to a bigger graphic card but we can add an external GPU, the other said it's possible to upgrade the GPU. Which is it??

Be careful you're not confusing the older m17x (or just 17) model - which did have a removable GPU.
The m17 you've mentioned, does not.

Ok thats sad. What about an external gpu device? Can it be used in conjunction with my internal GPU for added performance?

You can use the Alienware Graphics Amplifier in conjunction with a desktop GPU.
