m17 R3, Windows update, flickering at bottom of screen
Hi,
Alienware m17 R3, 1 year old.
Since a windows up date 3 days ago i have flickering at the bottom of my screen, its a direct mirror of what's on the top (I can see the shortcut images briefly upside down).
It only happens when everything is minimized, if I have an app or software open, try to screen record, use track pad it doesnt happen. My external monitor through HDMI is not effected nor is it present when I share a screen with my tv. Its seems to be getting worse and i am 100% sure there is no damage to my screen.
I dont believe in conspiracy's but my warranty lapsed 2 weeks ago

Thanks for your reply.
I was in touch with tech support, luckily the agent I spoke too (Michal) had experienced the same issue. It turns out the GeForce update was the issue. When you do an Express Update, it sometimes doesn't do a clean install and doesn't change some settings. I had rolled back the previous Windows up date so I needed to update that again. Then by doing a custom update and selecting clean install of the driver it resolved the issue.
Hopefully anyone else who experiences it can see this and resolve the problem for them.

Hi @lifeandtimes welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Seems that a recent driver update has not installed correctly. When visiting Device Manager, are any of the drivers moved to the right to warn that they require attention. Updates may not be fully integrated, run the onboard Check Disk, to find and automatically fix any file errors on the OS)C:) boot drive. If Restore to an earlier time has been enabled, go back in time to before recent updates when m17 R3 did not have this problem.

So what do we do if we don't have a restore point?

Hi @ParklandBob welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
If GeForce update was the root cause of this issue, reinstall GeForce update should fix this problem. You should not have to wait for the next GeForce update.

Hi @ParklandBob thank you for sharing update.
Please look in Device Manager (see my earlier post in this thread: 07-09-2021 08:01 AM) to determine if any of the other drivers need attention. Thank you.

Nothing there. I've run all the updaters and even did an uninstall of the video card as suggested in PM by a Dell Tech. Still no love.

Hi @ParklandBob thank you for sharing update.
Please visit your online Dell account and create Service Request to get Dell to start a Remote Session. Dell Technical Support has more diagnostic capability and should determine if fault can be fixed online, or if Dell assigned contractor should visit and replace hardware.
Please click on @DELL-Cares to send Private Message and request assistance. Thank you.

Congrats on the issue being fixed! Word of recommendation from me is to always clean install your stuff so if any issues are happening that should fix them unless something hardware related is going on.
